I've applied for a volunteer position in a charity shop and they said that the manager will call through the week... will I be asked to attend an interview?

how long does it take after that for them to take you on as a volunteer? (after reference checks etc?)

  1. yes you do just like any job

  2. Yes, you will be asked to attend an informal interview to discuss the information you have written on your application form.

The Manager/Manageress will probably ask questions about your outside interests to build up a profile about you. Hours of work will be discussed along with your availability.

Generally your references are checked and after these have been completed, you are either offered a position or declined.  The length of time before you are possibly taken on as a volunteer depends on how quickly the referees respond.

I hope you find a worthwhile and rewarding position helping in the community.  Good Luck

  3. You probably will have to but not like a real interview. Its not going to be tense and its not like there are hundreds of people dying for that job, it will be friendly and relaxing and you're probably just going to talk about your working hours etc.

  4. I would have thought that you would have an interview, although it may be very informal.  They will need to check that you aren't doing to steal all the cash!  In fact you may have to have a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check.  It is pretty simple to fill in, you just need to know your addresses for the past five years.  For this kind of volunteer role they would be looking to see that you haven't been conviceted for fraud or theft.

    Good luck!

  5. I don't think so
