This is what seems to be Japans last ditch effort to try win over the IWC and lift a ban on commercial whaling. This is by far the most rediculous argument I have ever read.

Obviously they dont know that whales are not a sustainable species. We cannot breed or mass produce whales. Human do not and cannot give back to our oceans. It is ashame that factory animal farms are causing severe and most likely irreversable damage to the quality of our planet, but switching to whale meat is by no means a solution to climate change.

  1. Definately agree with you; check out Greenpeace efforts - they do get things changed, politically and physically!

  2. There is no reason humans couldn't have a sustainable harvest of whales.  I personally think it should be outlawed because whales have been shown to be extremely intelligent.  That being said, it is difficult to argue with the Japanese on that point.  You may not like meat but it hasn't irreversibly damaged the "quality" of our planet IMO.  It is simply a way to increase the productivity of the land.

  3. The argument makes sense in theory, if they harvested whales at a sustainably low level, but in practice whales have been overharvested, disproving their claim that whaling is more environmentally friendly .

  4. a the reason Japan is wanting to hunt whales is because it is their social pattern and past habits which all people try to maintain.

Here in the mid-west of the US many people hunt wild game and enjoy hunting and eating said game

All habits are difficult to give up but over time many changes nave come to humans because of changing circumstances

  5. Why can't we just accept whaling.

Have a look at this comic!

  6. People will try to distort science to fit their personal beliefs.

Global warming deniers do it all the time.

  7. We shouldn't believe anyone when they have a reason to lie.  I don't think the Japanese expect us to believe them but it saves face if they tell themselves we do.

  8. Well, it uses less land, which is more environmentally friendly to the section of the environment we reside in.

  9. If they want to start farming whales in their own fenced in pools, I have no problem with that. But it'd be stupid because  it could never be cost effective.
