  1. If you play with the people I do...it is 99% luck because you get no respect for playing by the book.

Now, when I go to the casino to play it's a bit different and I'd say more like 60% luck, 40% skill.

  2. both

  3. all card games are down to luck.

if you're not dealt the cards - you don't have a good hand.

if you're dealt good cards - you're onto a winner.

sorry if thats not what you wanted to hear, but happy playing.

  4. I'm sorry to say that it is a game of luck with a little bit of skill.

  5. More of a game of stupidity. Better to just let someone kick you where the sun don't shine than throw good money away.

  6. Well if someone who plays poker with there friends were to play a pro they would lose most likely unless it comes down to draws. There is skill tho.

  7. i would say more skill as u play the other player or players not the cards or the dealer, u could have rubbish cards but bet as if u had good cards.

@thisisme - the only player who knows if u have bad cards is u,u represent what cards u have in your betting style ect....

so it is a more a game of skill to fool the other players to make them think u have better cards than what u really have andnot a game of chance by what cards u are dealt

  8. A game of skill...but its always great to have luck to go with it.  You need to be able to read the players, the texture of the board, and be able to strategize your play based on the type of players that you are playing against and your position on the table.  There's more to it than just luck but it never hurts to have luck on your side.

  9. it is skill BUUUT alot players don't realise how much swing is possible. Even with a decent 12% EV, you will still see many losing sessions. So you need to be bankrolled properly to survive into the long run where the true skill profits come through.

  10. A bit of both.

  11. 10% luck 90% focus. Its all about checking your opponents out theres no point risking big money on a 3 of a kind when you can clearly see the grin on your opponents face.

  12. Poker is a game in which your skill level can limit how much luck comes into play.  In most table games, the player's input is minimal, so you're just waiting to see if you get the desired card. Poker is about knowledge, patience, focus, attention to detail, memory...  all of which could be called skill.  You get to control the action.  Over time, a player completely new to the game will ALWAYS lose more than a seasoned, solid player.   WIth that being said though, the most skillful choices don't always lead to wins, and stupid moves sometimes pan out...so there's the luck part.  But the skillful choices win more often than not.  So eventually, SKILL BEATS LUCK.

  13. It's purely a game of skill OVER TIME.  In any given series of hands luck obviously has a lot to do with the outcomes but in the end as your sample gets bigger and bigger skill wins out more and more.  This is like the house having a small edge over the player and in the short run the player might win through luck but in the long run the house will win.  With poker the bigger the skill edge the more you will win in the long run.
