I know this has probably been asked before but not by me!

I personally am convinced she is innocent.

If you do believe she is guilty, do you also believe her punishment fits the crime?

  1. Guilty, she knew exactly what she was going on and they the corby's have done this before but on that day the Indonesian customs officer thats paid to pass them through wasn't there at the time.

Her family distribute surf gear in Bali, they have plenty of boogie boards she didn't need to take a boogie board with her.

  2. For all you that answered with Guilty; answer me this question. If she was guilty why did she freely bring the bag up to the customs counter and say it was hers before it was even opened? Why did she grab the bag on her own accord and proceed  to open the bag herself before the customs official even asked her to? Why did she test negative for drugs on the night she was arrested?

I'm no detective, but it seems to me that she had no idea that there were any drugs in her bag.

And this question goes to the Australians: Why was Australia in such an uproar when all this went down because a supposedly innocent women was convicted, yet now it appears that most Ausi's believe she was guilty all along? What changed?

  3. I don't know to be completely honest.  When she was first convicted I believed she was innocent and felt sorry for her.  I was angry at John Howard for not doing more to help her.  But I do believe 20 years for drug smuggling is way to harsh.  Her life is over, she'll be too old to have kids and get married by the time she gets out.  Convicted killers get lesser sentencing - it just doesn't seem right.

However I would just like to point out to some people who have already answered this question - just because her family have a history with drugs doesn't necessarily mean she does.  If my mum was a hooker does that make me a hooker?  No.  If my dad does drugs does that make me a druggy?  No.  If my brother kills someone, does that make me a killer?  No.  It's ridiculous to judge someone's character from their family.

I would also like to say we will never know for sure if she did it or not.  The Indonesian legal system has a reputation for being corrupt and that bag of pot was never finger printed.  As soon as it was discovered staff put their fingers all over it, touched it and it no longer become valuable evidence.  The only person who knows the truth is her if she did it or the person who planted it in that bag is she didn't do it.  And until someone admits to it we will never know.

Jeffery S is right... she didn't at all act like something was suss.  She acted as if she had no idea what was about to happen.  Her family have connections with Indonesia, she knows their legal system and she knows drug smuggling can get you killed.  So why did she freely declare the bag hers and open the bag to the customs officer?

  4. l think....zubir e.......hit the nail on the head.....

  5. Guilty as sin along with her family, look at the company they keep for starters. 20yrs is harsh but better than the death penalty that she could of got, only corby knows the truth.

  6. She's guilty, no doubt about it. But no, she doesn't deserve 20  years. Not when terrorists over there get let out after a few months, when they have killed hundreds of people. Weird justice over there. But Schapelle has no one to blame for her predicament but herself - it's no secret what happens if you try to smuggle drugs in those places.

(Did you hear about the Schapelle Corby lawn mower? It holds 4 kilos of grass and it's good for 20 years!) Sorry!

  7. I don't know that the truth will ever be known here. I personally think she is Innocent and a serious miscarriage of justice has occurred

She has not been helped by being a member of the Corby family. I seriously believe they are more interested in money than helping Shapelle. I think the best she can hope for is that she will be allowed to serve the rest of her sentence back in Australia

  8. i think she is guilty

but i think 20 years is too much

    espcially in a different county

    maybe 7 years is apprioate

  9. Guilty.  I think 20 years was a bit much.  But, I don't think she should have been allowed to go to a beauty salon while in hospital.  She would not have been able to do that here in Australia.

  10. Corby is guilty of bringing drugs into Indonesia. She deserves that 20yr sentence because Asian countries seem to hate having drugs, unlike Western countries. She should be locked up for some sheer stupidity.

And anyway, she keeps trying to profit with her family out of jail. She wrote a biography, her sister sued Channel 7, the list goes on. Jail is a correctional facility, not a money-making facility.

  11. I believe she is guilty... of gross stupidity.

Anyone who has ever travelled in Asia knows they are VERY anti-da-da!  To expect a lesser punishment because you are female or a foreigner is outrageous.  Australians have been hung for importing drugs.  She's lucky she wasn't shot.

  12. Personally I feel she is guilty. Looking at her latest stunt of depression I am in no doubt she is guilty. A depression sufferer myself I am insulted that she can think she can employ this excuse. As for the punishment fitting the crime - well drugs distroy life so .... I can see it from that angle.

  13. INNOCENT

come on people, have some symapthy.

i'm from indonesia, and i know very well how corrupt the government can be. they did NOT hold a fair trial, and even contaminated [and might i add stole] the evidence, which was teh maijuana, by touching the plastic bag without even hand-printing it, which they ended up never doing.

    shes innocent T_T

  14. Innocent. They did not finger print the bag, baggage handlers were busted for smuggling drugs in that SAME airport. 20 years is far too much but it beats life/execution.

  15. **I've thought from very early on that she was guilty and I've only become more convinced of it over the years.  I don't think it was the first time that the family had smuggled drugs into the country and I think they just got a bit greedy and thought they'd get away with it.

As for whether her punishment fits the crime, I think 20 years is a bit harsh however that's only because we're used to the Australian law and what punishments get handed down over here.

She would never have got 20 years in Australia, it just doesn't happen here but in another country, such as Indonesia, they have a very tough stand on drugs and they obviously think that the punishment is fair.

I think if the Australian legal system was a lot harder on people like Schapelle (regardless of whether she personally was guilty), I don't know that drugs would be the big issue that they are here today.  People might think twice about them.**
