  1. oooohhh yeah..

Do you remember when your parents use to turn in coke bottles, because they had a deposit on them?  What better way to encourage recycling?

    Plus, that's money man!!

  2. YES! Keeps areas cleaner looking and helps out kids and homeless people to earn x-tra $.

  3. No. Not all of them are recyclable, motor oil containers, for example.

  4. Keep the homeless (or low income as its now turning into) employed and with a little extra money.   I cross the boarder into a state without the deposit and withing a few miles the roads are covered in cans/bottles.   Where I am now though there aren't all that many along the road.   It was getting to be more of them since 5c isn't really enough to matter anymore, but since the economy tanked people are cleaning them up again.   Should be raised to 15c each.   Some states actually make money and create thousands of jobs with the program while others make it a pain for everyone.

  5. Definately. It might give people the onus to get off thier butts and get out there and recycle more items. Everyone loves to make a buck off something that cost them nothing.I suspect that there could be a deposit of sorts available because of the measures the local councils take to ensure the shire residents are using those recyling bins they give us accordingly. WE just need to do more research to find out who is paying for what...

In Qld - you can take your scrap metal to scrap yards (if anyone is watching the news here the one at Rocklea, Brisbane is on fire at the moment). They have different catagories for porous, non porous (excuse spelling) alloy ect. Copper is also scrappable and is worth the most. As for your softdrink cans - you need a ?^^t load to get a few $ for them. My partner owns a mechanical workshop and we send alot of scrap away, from engine bits, to mag wheels, to alloy bullbars ect. Even a complete wrecked car will give you a bit of pocket money. We have just located someone that takes the plastics as well. It's the income from the scrap that keeps the business' head above water in the slower times and there is plenty of $ to be made.

I can remember the days when we used to take the old glass coke/softdrink bottles to the local shop and in return the lady would give us a bag of mixed lollies for each bottle. The kids in the street would knock on everyones doors collecting bottles....If only the little corner store here could do that now a days.

  6. No. JMO I don't think it's been a very successful program. That's $0.05 has just become part of the cost of buying the product and still gets thrown out way too often.
