I have been pondering back and forth weather it exist or not and is so who caused it... Thanks for all short answers, and long as well.

  1. No, there is insufficient proof, because we do not know what is a normal temperature.  Read some history and you will realize we only have 200 years worth of historical data on less than 30% of the earth.   For Pete's sake the national weather service's best models can only make a correct Forecast 1 or 2 days in advance.  How the heck can we know the temperature in ten years.

I ask this of every global warming nut, because that is what they are.  What was the temperature in Phoenix AZ on April 30, 1776?  Question 2 did the Hohokam Indians of central Arizona cause the area around Phoenix to become a desert because they over-farmed it or was it always a desert?

My point is think for yourselves people and read some  history.

Most of the people I see writing this global warming c**p couldn't even tell the difference between Antarctica's and Australia's locations on a map. They know nothing of historical temperature or weather data and couldn't tell you when the mini-ice age occurred or even if there was one.  Sorry ppl for the rant but someone has  got to say it.

  2. There is no scientific proof that humans cause global warming but there are hundreds of reason to say it happens naturally. Somewhere between 10 and 15 thousand years ago the temperature rose 7 degrees in 15 years. In the day of the vikings the earth was so warm that they sailed up to greenland to live a there was no ice there ( must have been alot warmer then it is today). Our governments blame us for global warming as it gives them more reasons for taxing us, but they actually have no idea, you cannot predict mother nature, the temperature could rise another couple of degrees and then could drop us into an ice age, or it could just boringly go up and down a few degrees for the next few thousand years. There are worse things at threat like a super eruption at yellowstone or a magnetic polar reversal.

  3. There is substantial evidence that our modern world is not beneficial to the eco system. This in itself should be warrant to change our ways.

Global anything is not caused by puny human beings. That's like saying the weight off all the people going to Hawai'i is causing a volcano to erupt. Or saying that if everyone took a rock from the grand canyon who visited, over time would cause it to collapse. Just because someone's house gets destroyed by lava doesn't mean they caused it. Just not a good location to build a house. Someone taking a rock from the grand canyon might expose a field mouse, that gets discovered by a hawk. We didn't cause it, we are witness to it.

  4. Yes. Partially.

If you say that it is 100% caused by humans, then you have become a victim of politics, because the Earth DOES have natural heating and cooling cycles.

If you say that it does not exist, then you too have become a victim of politics, because you can't argue that mean temperatures are rising faster than history suggests would happen.

  5. The Earth has many problems because of man

this is undeniable ,how much we are responsible for Global warming is debateble ,But there is a definate change in Global temperatures that is affecting nature in a bad way.

this text only covers some aspects of Climate change ,mainly agriculture i.e.effects of deforestation and subsequent man made desertification

water and air polution such as caused by

industrial contamination ,the contaminating effects of the cities(the internal combustion engine) ,are other stories,

and all of these are also man made ,such as the high industrial chimneys pumping contamination into the clouds and the burning of tires, some of this polution has been found in the ice in the polar regions

there are natural cycles in the planets life

but a lot is influenced by mans existance ,and this is increasing with overpopulation, putting strains on Natural resources and increasing contaminations as well as destructions of essential componants the ensure living conditions for all life forms

climate change is caused in great parts by desertification ,and most desertification is caused by man

the thinner ozone layer helps to speed this up.and this is caused mainly by air polution ,also as a result of mans actions

in North Africa,India,Mexico ,millions of people are effected by land loss and desertification and some have died as a result,

And now many animals are becoming sick because of changes in temperature ,

vital links in the food chains are disapearing affecting other species further along in the chain

90% of the feral (wild) bee population in the United States has died out.

In the Netherlands bee diversity is down 80 percent in the sites researched, and that "bee species are declining or have become extinct in Britain."

wildflowers that depend on pollination have dropped by 70 percent

we are witness to a mass exstinction ,for the first time since the dinosaurs, of the earth's estimated 10 million species, 300,000 have vanished in the past 50 years. each years, 3,000 to 30,000 species become extinct.

everything is happening so fast it is not possible to monitor things any more.

,the Sahara is growing by 7 kilometers a year

and most of the desserts we know are a results of mans actions ,and they are increasing ,not getting less ,in the dinosaurs days ,there were few desserts.

collectively this planet is drying up ,

each degree rise in temperature means 10%crop loss

and there is less and less water (because of deforestation),to irrigate this production ,

and there are less and less farmers to do it..

Arable lands and their farms are lost all over the globe. Many farmers sons abandon farming and head for the cities.

Northern China is drying up, what once were millions of food producing people, are now hungry refugees ,running for their lives from the all consuming dust storms.

This will have a great effect on world food prices when they start buying at what ever cost, to feed their people.

The farmers that are left have to feed some 70 million more people than the year before but with less topsoil.

    Over the last half century,

Population growth & rising incomes have tripled world grain demand from 640 million tons to 1,855 million

In the near future the global farming community will not be able to feed every body ,food prices will continue to rise. .

    RISING SEAS

The northpole is melting ,and we will know it without ice in our life times.

this does not affect the sea level because it is ice that is already in the water.but the melting ice from Green land and the south pole ,are another matter

Global warming could be slowed down to some extent, but it will mean global co operation between all countries ,and taking into account human nature and the world politics ,it is unlikely that this will happen,

At least not untill we are all in the middle of planetary disastres and it becomes a battle for the survival of humanity every where, instead of just some third world countries Source(s) here are a 100 ways to help

  6. It's not a matter of "believing" or not--science isn't about opinions, its about facts.  And the facts say  the current global warming is real--and caused by humans.

So its a matter of either understanding the basics of science or not.  If you don't, that's okay as long as you are willing to learn.

There are plenty of websites that have legitimate information.  Here's some suggesstions fo ryou:

nasa.gov (NASA does much of the research, since the satellites they have are crucial to studying Earth)

pbs.org (PBS has many excellant programs on climate--and online resources)

livescience.com (Not sure how much they've got, but they are legitimate).

Also--many universities have material online that you can access without being "in their system."  So if you doe some searches, look for hits where the address is  a **.edu.  These will be universities and other bona-fide organizations.

Educate yourself.  Again, its not an opinion thing--its about knowledge and understanding.

  7. yes and yes

  8. I don't know.  Why are the swamps in Georgia and Florida burning?

  9. This is science and what counts is the data.

"I wasn’t convinced by a person or any interest group—it was the data that got me. I was utterly convinced of this connection between the burning of fossil fuels and climate change. And I was convinced that if we didn’t do something about this, we would be in deep trouble.”

Vice Admiral Richard H. Truly, USN (Ret.)

Former NASA Administrator, Shuttle Astronaut and the first Commander of the Naval Space Command

Here are two summaries of the mountain of data that convinced Admiral Truly, short and long.

    It's (mostly) not the sun:

    http://www.stopglobalwarming.org/sgw_act...

And the first graph aboves shows that the sun is responsible for about 10% of it.  When someone says it's the sun they're saying that thousands of climatologists are stupid and don't look at the solar data.  That's ridiculous.

Science is quite good about exposing bad science or hoaxes:

    http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/ATG/polywater...

There's a large number of people who agree that it is real and mostly caused by us, who are not liberals, environmentalists, stupid, or conceivably part of a "conspiracy".  Just three examples of many:

"Global warming is real, now, and it must be addressed."

    Lee Scott, CEO, Wal-Mart

"Our nation has both an obligation and self-interest in facing head-on the serious environmental, economic and national security threat posed by global warming."

    Senator John McCain, Republican, Arizona

“DuPont believes that action is warranted, not further debate."

Charles O. Holliday, Jr., CEO, DuPont

There's a lot less controversy about this is the real world than there is on Yahoo answers:

    http://www.worldpublicopinion.org/pipa/a...

And vastly less controversy in the scientific community than you might guess from the few skeptics talked about here:

    http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/fu... and:

"There's a better scientific consensus on this [climate change] than on any issue I know - except maybe Newton's second law of dynamics.  Global warming is almost a no-brainer at this point,You really can't find intelligent, quantitative arguments to make it go away."

    Dr. Jerry Mahlman, NOAA

  10. Yes. Yes.

  11. Global warming happens throughout the mellenium.  But this particular phase we are going through is happening at a much faster rate than previous sessions.  Makes you wonder why.  The planet is more heavily populated than ever before.  We're burning fossil fuels like they're water.  And at the rate we're going, doesn't look like much chance of reversal, let alone survival.  Should be interesting to see what transpires within the next ten years.

  12. Yes and YES!! We all contribute to it. You don't have to go out and make a big research or read too much to find out. It's just common sense. For example: During the holidays, people/families get together and make use of the kitchen most of the day cooking different meals, right? Well, is that home going to be warm (And sometimes hot), or cold? Do different smells spread throughout the house? Does steam stays exclusively in the kitchen stove without been seen in the windows as moist? The same thing happens out there with all that trash, contamination, automotive fuel emissions and industrial plants wastes that are being dumped or filtered into air. COMMON SENSE!
