Question:

Do you believe global warming is caused by man?

All through geological history. over millions of years that this planet has had an atmosphere, the climates over the globe have changed and swung from extreme to extreme. And sea levels have changed countless times before. Man may be the catalyst in speeding this phase of global warming, but do you really believe he is THE cause for it? Even if all of mankind were to work together in union towards zero carbon effects global warming will still happen. Even before man started rubbing sticks together to make fire it had happened. After man has been wiped off the face of this beautiful planet it will still happen. Phase after phase of warming followed by cooling and warming - it is a natural phenomenon. Not convinced? Have a look at the facts recorded as fossils and in the rocks. Or even more recently in the submerged forests around our coasts - forests swamped by the sea a mere few thousand years ago. How much global impact did man have then?

Do you believe man is to blame?

  1. we are partly to blame more to do with the ever increasing human population from one billion in the 19th century to six and a half billion now so mother nature has a hard task of keeping the planet a healthy state so as all living things can survive and repoduce EARTH IS A LIVING ORGANISM  WE NEED IT MORE THEN IT NEEDS US

  2. Gee, after you've laid you all of your information, I have to ask...do you really care?

I think the REAL question ought to be "Does it matter?"

The fact is, regardless of who/what is the leading contributor to global climate change, the reality is that it will ultimately result in a dramatic and drastic change in the earth and the possible way of life for human-kind.  You can see it already in the spread of diseases, the shift in growing seasons, the loss of land mass, the increasing power of weather patterns (hurricanes and tornadoes), etc.

So, with that in mind, "what do we do?"  The naturally occurring causes do not have the power of "will" or "reason."  We, however, do.

So, we can sit back and ride the wave and continue to live like we have and consume as much as we freakin' well please....OR....we can choose to take action that will preserve (or possibly improve) our way of life.

Personally, I'd like to see human-kind stick around long enough for my great grandkids to worry about these same questions.  So, I'll give up my fossil-fuel driven toys (no more ski-doo, unfortunately) and I'll find other ways to get my thrills.

  3. Man is half to blame for global warming. Global warming is a natural process, but man is causing it to become way out of hand. We are heating up the atmosphere at an unnatural rate. So in effect, yes, we are part of the cause of global warming.

  4. yes coz of all the electric, gas, petrol, radiation and what not. oh well...everything comes to an end one day, so will the world.

  5. I believe global warming and cooling is totally natural and none of it is caused by man.

  6. Man has some part in it to blame, but our earth goes through this cycle of heating and cooling ever 40,000 years. But i do believe that man is speeding up the process.

  7. Oh sure, it's just common sense.  We are converting terrestrial carbon into atmospheric carbon at a rate at least a million times faster than nature put it in the ground.

Yes, it does matter.  The alternative to somethingness is nothingness.

Why would you consider it ok to destroy the possibility of sentience for our descendents?

Kind of selfish, don't you think?

  8. Global warming is natural, that has been proved, otherwise it would still be the ice age. However when people like Al Gore talk about global warming being caused by man they do not mean the warming, they mean the accelerated rate of warming. We are not causing the warming we are just speeding it up tremendously.

  9. I don't believe in global warming. I'm sat huddled to my radiator and it's almost June.

  10. A combination of man and natural cycle.

    check this interactive globe

Global warming is but a component, in a group of destructive forces at work such as ;deforestation, desertification, soil and water contamination ,irresponsible or wasteful utilization of bio resources , air pollution,Non sustainable Agriculture, over pumping carbon aquifers

all concepts which are definitely not part of the Natural Processes of the Natural world

    .

    WHICH WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR,

The most prolific growth on this planet is part of the day in the mist and most of the time under clouds ,and the least growth is always directly in the sun .

To exchange the one for the other means changing local climates

We are exchanging Nature with Tar , concrete and open spaced mono cultures.

In 300 years half of the planets forests have gone ,and in the last 50 years half of the wet lands ,and rain forests

These Areas absorb heat during the day and release heat at night ,

Cause cloud formation(shade).humidifying the air on the surface as well as releasing excess water at the roots that keep rivers flowing ,which in turn brings more water into the Environment .

As well as contributing to absorbing carbon emissions as do the leaves of the trees together with the oceans .

All in all many factors which directly affect the local Environment .

The loss of the above resulting in rivers drying up ,less rain ,desertification, loss of habitat for many species and so on.

dryer and hotter surface environments which can manifest in different weather patterns such as tornadoes or bush fires

I may be stupid or Naive but somehow i believe that lots of these local environmental changes, can add up to affect global weather, If there are enough of them (and there are)

And then on top of that comes the story of the effects of pollutants released into Nature and especially the Air ,by MAN http://earthissues.multiply.com/photos/a...

A cocktail of events and a lot of the ingredients have MAN written all over them

So it is safe to assume that we should look at ourselves ,just a teeny bit ,for possible improvements ,and rectifying Eco errors that are with in our powers.

    What is a safer bet

to be or not to be

  12. i believe everything causes  global warming.

  13. i do but not for the reasons that most people do...

i believe that its the glass and the asphalt reflecting the sun making it seem hotter than it acctuly is

  14. i think some things have to do with it

  15. Man is to be blamed in that sense that now we have the responsibility to overcome this menace to humanity.

Nothing can happen without the phenomena's of  cause and effect. We have to do something if we want to give a conducive atmosphere to our younger-subsequent  generation.

Environmental changes are occurring with each passing day. Something that was happening earlier when there was no man on the surface of earth is not to be assumed for the case study.

What happening now? This is of great concern for us. Global warming is increasing or decreasing, its happening naturally or we have a hand. We are responsible to check and take it under control before it is too late.

  16. I think it is all our falt , well most of it , because of us all using cars , ect , its all our fault , we never admit it , but when every 1 is running around on fire moaning , they will addmit it then

  17. you have a convincing argument but have overlooked one vital detail....this time warming is happening rapidly .....just think...we are using up coal ..oil ...forests ...jungles ...wildlife  ...we are covering more and more of our land with houses , industry .roads..etc..surely the only answer to our problems is to globally curb the  human birth rate somehow asap...without wars..follow chinas lead possibly

  18. I don't believe man has caused global warming but has greatly enhanced the process so that events that would have taken thousands of years to occur are happening on a yearly basis - that is really the disaster.

  19. What if it is man? I think we dont help...I often thought about atomic bomb testing and the effect that may have had on our axis....changing weather patterns. One degree nearer the sun and we heat up...but what about if these drastic changes are down to the earths cooling down process and magnetic polarity changes....mind boggles....

One thing I do believe in is, every so  many hundreds of thousands of years the earth goes through an ice age, perhaps we are going to go through a heat phase...!!

I think one day we will not be able to survive outside because of the extreem temperatures and we will all be living underground in 'channel Tunnel' type highways....Well its a possibility...isnt it...?

  20. Global warming is brought on by Putting all the soot and pollution into the air.  Cutting down forestry this  takes from the planet.  You can alter enough of the air and land until it won't repair itself....So yes man has 90 percent of the damage done to the ozone causing all the systems to start to dry up and diminish.  Setting off turbulence in water/ice glaziers melting and weather systems going into chaos..

  21. Global Boll ox is another form of Scare Mongering...there is nothing wrong with the Environment...and it's been proved

  22. Yes.  And alot of it has to do with positive feedback loops... hole in ozone = atmosphere is less able to block out ultraviolet light and therefore regulate the temperature range of the planet, melting icebergs = a rise in sea level (and due to the greater absorbance of the heat of water compared to the reflective capabilities of ice, in part because of their color and dark/lightness) and further warming, thus,  more melting of icebergs, and so on.  Another thing, the change (pendulum-esque swings from iceage to warming) that is usually very gradual is happening at a highly accelerated rate...  Anyhow, whether or not a person chooses to beleive that global warming is caused by man does not negate the obvious fact that pumping all these nasties (i.e., CO2, methane, CFCs, etc.) is not beneficial and seems by all accounts to be more harmful than ...the opposite of harmful.

I do not beleive that whether or not we are going to kill ourselves off should be the deciding factor as to when we decide to stop poisioning the only home we've got.  When the question becomes "how much sh*t can we live in before we drown in it?" the problem is worse than just determining whether the who or the what is the cause of global warming.

  23. What mankind puts into the air for CO2 is not enough to cause concern. We put less than 1% of CO2 in the air. Volcanos produce greater amounts if CO2 on any given day then mankind in one year. The sun going though its cycles has greater effect on earth temperatures. It is shear arrogance to believe that we have some powerful effect on this planet's climate.

  24. man isnt responsible for global warming HOWEVER we are in part responsible for accelerating it

  25. I blame some on man some on just weather change

  26. I would say it is nature, and it cant be stopped.

But we should still do everything possible to slow things down

  27. Like you said this has been happening since the earth was born. some people are saying that we are causing it but the fact is our weather data only goes back a few hundred years, so noonce can prove that this is not completely natural.

the fact is its going to happen no matter who's fault it is.

  28. Yes. Our success will be out fall. The planet is fighting back and will survive long after we do. Sadly because only a few care, it won’t be enough, as the damage is done now; so it’s just a matter of time but I think we will see an extreme difference sooner than we think. We were warned years ago but such is the nature of mankind…

  29. We have now had 10 years of cooling or stable temperatures

    http://www.dailytech.com/Temperature+Mon...

The graph clearly shows that 1999 and 2000 were cooling year, 2001 to 2006 were stable and 2007 another cooling year. These are direct satellite measurements from the official organisations that monitor global temperature.

This indicates to me that the role of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere has been substantially over estimated, it is a factor but only one in many.

We should use our resources carefully and clean up after ourselves, but that won't make a scrap of difference to global temperatures

  30. I couldn't agree with you more and as you say the facts are there to support it.
