Question:

Do you believe in Creationism, Evolution, Both or Neither?

Many people feel that Creationism and Evolution contradict each other. I just want to know what people believe and why.

Is it possible for the two to co-exist?

Personally, I believe that Creationism tells what happened, while Evolution explains how it happened.

  1. First, keep in mind that creation is simply a biblical explanation looking for evidence where evolution is evidence looking for an explanation.

There is absolutely no science behind creation as it invokes the supernatural.  Evolution, on the other hand, is based purely on evidence.

However, evolution does not explain creation nor does creation explain evolution.  And, is it possible for the two to coexist?   Not really.

Since Darwin released his book, all science surrounding his ideas have only supported and verified the theory (not a hypothesis just as gravity is a theory).

  2. I think what you've described is creation, not creationism. science in general does not appeal to miraculous divine intervention, but creationism does - all the time. if you believe in a deist kind of god, who set up the universe like a vast table of dominoes, and did nothing but give the first domino a push, that's fully compatible with science. also a god who interacts with us only on a "spiritual" level (whatever that means) is compatible.

also, belief in a scientific theory and belief in some religious dogma are not really the same thing, I think. scientific theories are accepted to the extent that they explain, organise and predict scientific data. religious dogmas are simply accepted on faith.

  3. Creationism.....it takes alot more faith to believe in evolution than it does for creation....if there are missing links as evolutionists claim there should be ALOT more fossils of missing links rather than "normal" animal fossils due to the many transitions in order for the animal to "become" the other animal....the transition is gradual so we should find TONS of these fossils with the gradual transition occurring..... but we dont.... we find some extremely rare "controversial" fossils that usually turn out to be hoaxes. And evolutionists will never be able to explain how life came about....i mean just look at the complexity of a single atom.....how did it come about?? an accident? i think not......

  4. The problem is that creationism really explains nothing.  It does not have any physical evidence for its speculative explanations.  It has no way to determine which creation myth, if any, is correct.  It ultimately relies on faith, which discredits any physical evidence that contradicts the tenets of the faith.  That is, one believes some creation story because it is a part of one's social structure rather than because it represents an explanation of the ever-growing amount of physical evidence.

  5. As long as the act of Creation involves some very rudimental blob scraping a living in the primordial broth, the two are not mutually exclusive. But all evidence points to the fact that if God created the so-called higher beings, He did so by stepping back and turning on the evolution machine - not even intelligent design; the fossil record, the DNA evidence all show signs of failed attempts, improvising and 'on to plan B'. It looks as if we rose through chance; of course, an omniscient God could see right through 4,5 billion years of chance.

  6. Creationism. Evolution was simply created so some people wouldn't have to believe in Creationism. Evolution has many different facts and theories. However, they all go against each other. Creationism is the only theory that doesn't. Get a Bible and read Genesis Chapter 1(if you haven't already). For one thing, you know how evolution states that dinosaurs went extinct long before humans "evolved"? Well, why are their several thousand-year-old pictures on cave walls of men riding on a brachiosauras-like dinosaur. Also, if you take the time to read Genesis 1, read Job chapter 40:15-24 and 41. It talks about one possible dinosaur and even a possible large alligator-like creature that "breathes sparks from its nostrils. Scientists have even foud fossils of a "super-croc" which has a strange, unknown chamber in its nose which could be used to breathe fire. Now, if this is true, how could there not have been humans with dinosaurs. And if there were, the evolution theory is basically destroyed. There are a lot of other points that i could make, but this is already too long.

  7. Creationism believes in the authoritative word of the Bible in that the earth, the universe and all that is in it was Created by God.

To say that Evolution is proved is completely wrong. It is a theory only. Darwin wrote his THEORY of Evolution not based on fact but trying to explain things around him as he saw them.

If you want to believe that you evolved from apes then go ahead. There is NO confirmed link between humans and apes. Many so called scientists have tried to present proof of this link but they have been proved to be false and hoaxes. The school text books are still loaded with theories of evolution that have been proved wrong. Text books would have you believe that human embryos have gills. Totally false. This was to represent the theory that we evolved from fish or marine organisms.

To say that creatures evolve to suit their environment or food source is not Evolution as people would want you to believe.

A poodle and a wolf are still dogs but they have been bread differently. They did not evolve.

Evolution does not explain how it happened at all.

Creationism and Evolutionism are not compatible.

  8. I believe in evolution, because, after learning about creationism all throughout my life in a catholic school, and being a biology student, I feel that evolution is the most logical explanation, and has been backed up by a substantial amount of evidence.

Evolution was just a theory back when Darwin was researching and describing it.  A continually growing body of evidence to support the evolution of species over time has lead to its acceptance by most scientists (and most people) as FACT.  There may be missing links in the fossil record, as mentioned by people above, but, it's very rare for fossils to form, they will form in very stringent conditions only.  So, of course the fossil record will not be 100% complete, covering every species that ever lived.. But evolution at least explains logically how living things came to be.

  9. It's quite simple:

Evolution is supported by all of the data.  The more we learn, the more evidence we find supporting evolutionary theory.  Plus, evolution HAS been observed in the wild, in spite of the church's attempts to confuse the issue by inventing phrases like "macro" and "micro" evolution.  Anyone who claims that evolution lacks evidence hasn't taken the time to really study it -- most critics of evolution don't even understand what evolution IS.  Take the time to learn about it, and you'll be surprised at how much evidence there really is.

Creationism has zero supporting evidence.  No one has ever observed creationism, or anything to suggested that life was intelligently designed.  Their entire argument is based on trying to find holes in evolutionary theory... despite there being NO holes.  Even if creationists managed to disprove evolution, it wouldn't prove creationism, and definitely wouldn't prove the bible.  In order to prove something to be true, you need positive evidence supporting your theory... facts indicating that your theory is TRUE, not that another person's theory is false.  Negative arguments are lousy proof.

While evolution itself says nothing about the existence of god, it does lead one to question the idea of a higher power.  However, one can still accept evolution while having faith in a higher power, so long as they no longer take the bible literally.  I've met plenty of theists who also accepted evolution.

  10. I'm with you.   I think the problems only emerge when people insist on seeing this as an "either-or" question.   I wrote a couple of blogs about this very question:

    "The mistake of 'either-or' questions":

"Why would God use evolution instead of just creating life?"

    http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-5zRy63c3e...

The problem is that Creationists have hijacked the Creation story, and turned it into a CARTOON... the completely *literal* interpretation of Genesis right down to the number of cubits of gopherwood used in the Ark, to measuring time by the number of named generations from Adam to Moses, to the idea that it took God *literally* six days to build and populate a single planet when (a) the concept of "day" is meaningless until the planet and the sun both exist; and (b) it took more time to build and populate a single planet than it took God to produce literally *trillions* of stars each as massive, or hundreds of times more massive, than the sun.

Creationism is the belief that a childlike CARTOON version of religion is the only way to truly believe ... and so they must construct a childlike CARTOON version of evolution so that they can feel justified in rejecting it.   Whenever you hear the "why are there still monkeys?" question ... that is the cartoon version of evolution.   Or whenever you hear someone saying that evolution is "just a theory" (or putting THEORY in all-caps as if to remind us that it is "just a theory") ... that is the cartoon version of *science* ... the misconception that theories are "unproven facts."

So yes.   It is possible for the two to co-exist ... but not if the Creationists have their way.

Many scientists ... about 40% of the roughly 480,000 scientists in the biological sciences... have no problem believing in a Creator *AND* accepting evolution as the core of modern biology.   So it is not scientists who insist that the two cannot co-exist.

It is the Biblical *literalists* who are hijacking the Creation story and turning it into a joke ... and creating this unsolvable conflict, where none really exists.

  11. If you believe in a Biblical creation and evolution, don't the two contradict each other? The Genesis story has everything created at the same time, while evolution has plants and animals changing.
