Question:

Do you believe in Direct Action as a Protest?

I visited the Direct Action group in a forest near the Hill of Tara. I felt at home there and felt a great empathy with the people living in the forest who are trying to stop the M3 motorway passing nearby but have never been involved in Direct Action and don't know if this is the way forward. Do you have any opinion?

  1. Direct action is the only thing that works sometimes but I don't agree if it involves violence of any kind. Ghandi practiced passive aggression or peaceful protest. I think we need to do this(organise a mass demonstration) with Gordon Brown against the European Treaty which will get a final signing in December.

  2. I remember (through education) when women had to take "direct action" in order to gain

equal rights and to vote, some of them died for their cause.

I believe those that protest do serve a purpose. Many complain about them but I don't think we should forget that these people are the ones that are prepared to speak out and not be afraid to break the law to highlight some serious issues - whilst the rest of us bury our heads.

Many of us simply sit in our homes, complain, but do very little and wonder why 'we' sitting in our comfort zones are not being heard.

Only you can make any form of decision based on what you believe.
