  1. i believe it is another very valid way to design a room, and who knows if it works or not?  the eastern civilizations have been around much longer than those in the west, so i think we ought not be so arrogant as to say something like that WON'T work.

  2. Yes. It is not a question of believing or not, it is just experience. If you apply something to your life and you have results, then you know it works.

  3. A lot of people seem to think it’s a lot of nonsense but if you really take a minute to look at it does make sense.  One of the problems I find with Feng Shui is that there are so many different things you need to keep in mind (like your Kua #, your inconspicuous directions etc etc,) that it’s very easy to be overwhelmed by it all.

I’ve spent some time going through some books and personally find it best to take small things here and there and incorporate them into my every day life.  After I had been able to get a grip on those I moved onto some of the bigger ideas.  In all honesty – none of this stuff is harmful, it isn’t expensive (for the most part) and once you get a handle on it – it doesn’t take a tremendous amount of effort so why not?  There is a large group of people who swear by it and if they say hanging a crystal wherever will help bring me love – then I’ll give it a shot!

Here are some things I swear by:

I do not have any items in my bedroom that emit energy (besides a small mirror that does not reflect the bed and my alarm clock).  My bedroom is my sanctuary and my bedroom is where I go to sleep.  I do not see the point of having a t.v. or radio in your bedroom; it defeats the purpose of a bedroom because these are not suitable in creating a relaxing environment meant only for sleep.   The walls are fairly plain and both the carpets as well as the bed set are soft relaxing colors.

Bathroom – I always keep my toilet seat down and the shower curtain closed.  In Feng Shui they say it allows the positive energy in your home to washed down the drain.   Ok so not only are you potentially keeping positive energy in/bad energy out but also it creates a much nicer cleaner esthetic.

Clutter/disorganization – Feng Shui is about creating harmony in the environment so that the energy around us can flow freely and therefore be the most beneficial to us.  It’s not easy trying to take care of something when in order to do so you spend a half an hour searching for everything you need.  When you keep your home free of clutter and keep things organized it allows you to take care of things in much faster and stress free way.  Faster and stress free – is that not beneficial?

Smaller things I use in my home are the two sided hanging tassels for the doorway, mandarin ducks in my bedroom, the greedy dragon of ambition at work, wind chimes etc.  These are more symbolic than anything but I like the ideas behind them.  I think that a large part of understanding Feng Shui is based on what kind of mind set you have.   I believe we can create our own happiness and our own success in life.  In my eyes Feng Shui is a jumping off point for learning how to work with the world that we live in.  Create harmony in your home, and then use that knowledge to create harmony in your life.

  4. yes. everything in the universe is connected. if you don't believe - it is due to lack of knowledge or ignorance. if you actually apply feng shui, choose proper colors and put furniture wisely - the life will change. yes, you will start attracting more money and love etc etc. its up to you if you want to believe or not. but if you're looking for help with your life - feng shui is a good way to look up for rules.

  5. Yup. Its an ancient art for putting everything in harmony (with the forces of nature) to put it simply.

  6. While I think good organization, traffic flow, and placement of windows and doors is important,  all the whoo-haa about balancing supposed forces is just plain silly.  What's even sillier is to see people get worked up about the way their bed faces, planting "lucky" plants, or how to balance an aquarium.

I much prefer to follow "A Pattern Language" and "The Not So Big House."

  7. no. its all c**p
