  3. I know someone who is an Episcopal priest. Back in the 70's, he used to be a cop in New Orleans. Once a week (at least) they would answer a call from someone convinced they were under a "voodoo curse". The first time it happened (while he was a rookie), his partner took out a black book and begun to pretend to recite something. The man who'd thought he'd been cursed felt much better. Afterwards, the senior cop told the rookie "Get yourself a big black book. It doesn't matter if it's a Bible, a cookbook, a dictionary, as long as it's a big black book. Then when you get a call like that, take out your black book and pretend to break the spell."

That's what Voodoo is all about.

  4. Who-doo?  Oh, you mean Voodoo!  Voodoo is a religion practiced by some people.  By use of drugs, hallucinogens, suggestion and perhaps dark magic they make things happen.  Practitioners surely believe in it.  I myself am not of that persuasion.

  5. It definitely exists, and I know it can have an effect, but I do not believe that it works because of magic.

  6. Great question!

In LA, there were many who practiced this religion.  It seems to be based on parts of an African religion, mixed with an earlier form of Catholicism, than what we have today.  Each of the Catholic Saints is connected to the Lao (I hope that is correct in spelling and term) of Voodoo.

I have never practiced this art, since it is forbidden to those of my faith.  I do know some who have tinkered with it, and one who is into their faith.  Do I believe in it?  Well, what I believe says that it is a false religion, but, that is not the point.  The people who believe in Voudoo, do and that it guides their lives.  Like most religions, if they are based in good, the faithful follow it and lead good lives, treating their fellow man well.  The dark side of the religion, like all others, leads to mistreatment of others, even if they only get what they should.  Even Satanism, as taught by the late Anton LeVey, was not truely evil, but closer to neutral in that it was loyal to friends and distrustful of enemies.

My feeling is that it is the person who makes the religion work, based on what they put into it.  Some would argue that all the religions speak of just one being, called by various names, that exists in the form of laws or energy, and that we are born from it, and return to it when we die.  In this way, they all hit on some points and miss on others.  There seems to be a Truth that runs through them all, we just have to find it.

The end line is simple.  It doesn't matter what I believe, but what you do.  Is it in your heart, or not?  What may be right for one, may not be right for another.  I won't steer you away from it, but would offer you the chance to read about other faiths and see which works best with what you believe.  The goal is to find your faith and soul, not someone elses.  You will be judged on your heart, not your neighbors.

If you live in a city, like New York, LA, or a state like LA, you might try finding a priest/ess to tell you about it and offer some insights.  While most are out to convert you to their belief, there are a lot who aren't, espeically in faiths that don't have Christianity as a base.  Just be careful, as there are cults out there that only want to use you (physically, mentally, and emotionally).

    Hope this helps.

  7. yes, but I don't practice Voodoo because it's a sin.
