Or perhaps you believe in something else, whatever that may be.

Explain your beliefs. Thanks. ☺

  1. I don't believe in evolution.  I classify myself as a scientist, but that doesn't mean I worship science as a religion.  What I believe in is human reason and potential; everything else I'm completely unsure of.  But what all the evidence, all my reason tells me, is that the theory of evolution is sound.  If new evidence popped up that wasn't explained by evolution (and it was reproducable; mistakes happen) or a new theory came along that fit the available evidence better than evolution does, I'd abandon the theory of evolution, as that's what scientists do.  I think it would actually be kind of thrilling to have that happen.  I mean, this is the basic, fundamental theory of biology, the thing that makes biology make sense.  It was awesome and exciting enough to find a new kind of hominid (h. floriensis).  Can you imagine what it would be like if evolutionary theory was supplanted?

  2. I do not belief in evoltution...I think the evolution theory explains best why life is constantly changing. It is a wonderful theory, that offers a framework for asking new question. It is, in that sense, not perfect, as it leaves questions open like: how did life begin and what did it look like. But keeping the theory in mind that live is adapted to it's environment, it offers you the possibility to ask these question.

Creationism does not offer you this possibility: it forces you to belief in a superiour being  with a plan for all this. That is just to much for me, as I automatically wonder who has created this superior being etc. etc.

  3. YOU CAN"T BELEIVE IN BOTH CREATIONISM AND EVOLUTION because creationism states that we were all born like this. That humans were always humans and they never had any previous ancestors of other forms other than and ultimately a God or diety.Evolution states we evolved from other life forms and ultimately from singular microscopic life in the long run. So that contridicts. Who ever says you can beleive in both hasn't studied evolution well or havn't studied it at all.

I beleive in evolution because I can witness evolution. From diseases and bacteria devoloping resisitance. My skin adapting to cold weather getting goosebumbs, and muscles adapt to workouts. Humans using culture to live in all enviorments to insects becoming resistant to pesticides is forms of adaption. Adaption is the very meaning of evolution. Survival of the fittest, you have to adapt then to survive. I can witness cross breads of animals like a horse and donkey making a mule. Which shouldn't be if they are different and were always that way unless they once shared common ancestors not too far off. The only thing is that animals that reproduce faster can evolve faster. Because evolving is caused by mutation in the genes. And a mutation is really a genetic mistake that can affect you for the better , worse or really do nothing. So if you have more reproduction at a faster rate also the chances for evolution and genetic mutation is much higher. Which is why the easiest way to witness evolution is by looking at insects. They reproduce so rapidly that they can have one that is able to survive it's enviorment through mutation that fast. then that one will have babies and as the unfit ones die, the stronger one makes more fit offspring for the enviorment they are in. With animals that reproduce slower, it is much harder to witness it for the chances of mutation will lower. It would take over many generations and generations for evolution to take place. But insects can reproduce they can have 4 more generations in 2 months f it were only one insect of spring. But if the first generation had 50 at least. then if you multiply  50 offspring as a result of intercourse and 25 mating partners at least, they can have 1250 in the next generation.

With each mating partners  potentially making many as 10-100 of spring depending on the insect. most insects have many many of spring though . Maybe past 100. However sometimes animals may branch off species when isolated for many generations. Certain genetic mutations may cause similar animals to not be able to interbreed thus not becoming a same specie no more. Like if they had a mutation in there s*x genes, It could a play a big role in being able to reproduce with similar  animal that was once related. And being islaoted or away from it will not give it the chance to remix with it. Thus they create a new species. And then since they cannot mix no more , any new characteristics they get rom mutation will be kept in there specie only because they cannot share the genes for they are incompatible to reproduce with each other. Also some animals may be just so different that they would not be able to reproduce because all there other charcteristics are different. Some animals may have 23 chromosomes but a similar specie might have 45 and thus it may not work out.

We have also been able to confirm that some animals share more genetic similarity then others which means that they must have been related or the same specie at one point in the past. Also transitional fossils and bones have been found to demonstrate evolution of animals and changes.

Also there has been evidence that Comet space dust contains all the amino acids, proteins and stuff to spawn dna and life. So it maybe that it was comets that spawned life and not some diety. Also the bible says that the world was created 6,000 years ago when we have massive evidence that it's way longer then that. The minimuim years propsed  that Native Americans where in the America's is 1200-9000. And some think they came alot earlier. Some say they were other peoples before those Amerindians.

    Edit:

Thats not always true, because you can have 1 plant, That are lets say blue and big and one small red one. The can make a purple one small meduim big. red small meduim or big or blue small meduim or big. You can end up with a plant that has only makes purple meduim plants, be nothing like the original parents. Then 6 generations later have some that look blue, red or small or big.  And this is only with two types of characteristics. And They can be texture, aging, cell reproduction, resistance or exposure to diseases. Many things. Then many generations later mutation can occur which is rare when it happens but when it does, if the offspring that survives reproduces and keeps passing on that trait, Future generations will have that trait. > if it becomes too different from the other plant genetically then it becomes incaple to mix back with the other plant and becomes a new species because they cannot share no more new traits that show up in the future from mutation. . If a plant with a new type of mutated gene died before making offspring. That mutated gene is lost forever, forever  cutting off a new type of a plant. If plants did not have gene mutations then all plants would be able to have offspring with each other. A redwood tree mixing with corn making a redwood corn tree. Or a cactus mixing with an oak tree. or peas mixing with a bush making a pea bush. Genetic mutation if enough, over seperation or islation from another of its own will cause it too be too different to mix back again with the other group. Some mutations may not really do anything, some may not be noticable.

  4. Now thats a good question! the more I live learn study and grow spritually I kinda go with evolutionary creationism! There are things (in the bible even...shshshsh) everywhere that show this to be truth more than any other theory. If God didn't make the world just the way we know it in 6 days does that make him any less amazing? I don't think so! I DO think God created the earth in 6 days but I'm not sure that there is a timeline between creation and the "fall of man". Time to us is (in my oppinion) a measurement of our lifes. If we didn't have a certain time to live then what would we be counting? So the time between the sixth day and the "fall" could have been a long time right? EVEN possibly a REALY REALY long time.

Scientist are now saying that the world went from almost nothing to the size it is in milaseconds! That sure does sound like Genesis 1 to me!

sorry I have to run, they are going to start throwing stones any time now!

  5. You might be surprised how broad the alternatives are:

If you want to learn about the subject without having to sort through a lot of anonymous answers by strangers, about whom you know nothing, including whether they know anything, there's a way to learn.

The reading list below can act as a source for you. Most of the titles can be found in your local library. If they don't have them they can borrow them from another library.

  6. Science supports evolution with evidence, creationism has no evidence .It is only supported by a fairtale book called the bible which was written by men.

  7. Hi J.A.Y......I'm a spiritualist. I believe that there is a Great Spirit or Entity that created the earth and heavens and all living things but I also have the concept that evolution had a part in the creation of life also. God started life but evolution finished where God left off. Have a great day!

  8. I definitely believe in evolution.People, technology, ways of the world change and grow.

  9. I believe in evolution but the root cause is unknown. Just because the cause is unknown, is not evidence that a God is the Cause.

  10. I believe in a literal 7 days of creation.  I believe that in 6 days that God created everything and on the 7th day rested.  I believe the account of creation that is laid out according to book of Genisis in the Bible.

  11. Definately Evolution.

Its not only a theory but a proven fact! Only the lack of evidence is deterring them from proving that notion most of the time. Otherwise, if you take the time to read up on evolution, you will find firm findings that prove the evolution theory. Try this website. Its very informative.

    http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/evolution/

Creationism is a religion based idea made entirely on human believe system and as the saying goes, Religion is man made...

  12. It is clear that complex systems can be self-organizing with few rules. The motions of swarms of birds and schools of fish are clear examples, even though they are very simple examples.

What is usually forgotten in the discussions about the adequacy of time for life to have spontaneously arisen is that chemical reactions occur in femtoseconds until molecules have already developed to large scale complexity.

There is simply no need for creation by a deity as an explanation.

Evolution goes on in laboratories all over the world all the time. Scientists use selection of differently adapted individuals and their offspring, or just manipulate the genes of ever more complex beings in order to test hypotheses. Genetic manipulation of mice is now standard fare.

Surprise. There wouldn't a large scale population of anthropocentric killers on this planet if it weren't for farmers and herders selecting differently adapted (evolved) plants and animals to feed us.

  13. i believe in evolution because it makes the most sense to me. no offense to anyone but i can't even understand how some people believe in creationism. it's just soo FAKE!

  14. I believe God created the Earth and everything in it. But it

was six times not six days. In ancient Hebrew the word

" yom "  was used for time as well as for day. Genesis 1:5

was meant to say day.The rest should have been interpreted

as time. -- Note how many days it was before God created

the sun. Was the light before that a light from God?

Of course it was. There are no conflicts in my mind about

creation and evolution. My ancestor's did not swing down

out of trees. I can see why some people might think theres

did. We are created after our own kind. Meaning that no

one can plant an apple seed and get a peach.

    Good question, thanks.

  15. Read "The Collapse of Evolution" by Huse. It contains scientific PROOF that evolution COULD NOT HAVE POSSIBLY have happened. Don't tell me I'm nuts until you read it.

  16. I don't see why this question is in the anthropology section but heres my view on it. I would say that God has used this earth many different times for his own purposes and that each time he is finished he wipes the slate clean and starts again. The name for this theory in ruin-reconstruction. it will happen to us on day as well. even though when we are finished with the earth it might be unusable by God so he'll have to go to some other planet and sart the process again.

  17. Unfortunately, people without any knowledge in biology, anthropology, chemistry, geology, etc are making absolute conclusions on what they "believe in" in this matter.  This is similar to people conjuring up gods to explain thunder and lightning with no knowledge of electricity and weather.

Creation is more of a philosophical view, with no factual evidence to back it up whatsoever.  The theory of evolution explains what we know - that allele frequencies in populations are constantly changing - and how the fossil record has changed the way it has.  This change is fact; the theory is our best way of understanding it.  It is not a belief, similar in the way the atomic theory is not a belief.  It is a well-backed scientific theory, supported by all realms of science (especially genetics and anthropology I'd say).  Why is it not a belief?  Because it is subject to modification and is based on fact, not faith.

That said, I understand evolution to some degree.  I don't "believe in" it, for evolution exists.  I do believe the evolutionary theory is a good explanation for this change.

  18. I'm sure about creationism.  Nothing else makes sense.  Plus, God told us in the Bible.

Evolution is a theory that is less obvious to me.  When any of us plants a seed, the new  plant, that springs up, is always identical to the the parent 100% of the time!

    Creation is obviously true.

If the theory of evolution is also true, certainly both would be true;  but I doubt real proof will ever be found.

If anything does evolve, it still doesn't diminish the absolute necessity of God kicking off the sequence of events!

I can't believe nothing turned into everything without God.  No one will ever prove that!

  19. I believe in keeplng an open mind, no one has the answer to convince everybody that they know the truth, I find the more we know only goes to show how much we don't know. one's belief is not proof.

  20. Evolution presents an air-tight case for how we  came to be.

The creation tale presents no scientific evidence that its theory is correct.

  21. Evolution--it's the only rational explanation--there are lots of kinds of evidence to support it--creationism is an easy way to explain how we got here, but it doesn't really fit the real picture upon closer examination!

  22. Evolution.

It's not a matter of sheer belief. It's a matter of accepting reason and evidence. It therefore differs from "faith" or beleif despite reason and evidence.

  23. Evolution is a fact as much as it is that the Earth is not flat.  Animals have been changing for billions of years.  That is the definition of evolution.  To believe in creationism, you would have to believe that there is active control over the change.  You could believe that God let natural selection work and I would have no problem with that theory.  Natural selection is perfectly adequate as an explanation.

There may be something beyond the physical but that is a religious question.  We are clearly physically descended from the same ancestors that gave rise to all current known life on the  planet.
