I'm genuinely curious to know who out there believes in mermaids. I'm not really sure if I do. I've been researching all the folklore and whatnot and I find it interesting. I mean, I don't see why it's not possible. I read this one theory that they evolved from apes (like us, but I don't believe in ape evolution because I'm a Christian) but because the environmental and cultural differences, they developed differently. They said that apes will typically wade into any nearby water to avoid land predators, and that eventually, they adapted to the ocean environment. I think it's a little bit far fetched, but I think it's possible.

I don't believe that manatee theory. Manatee's don't really look anything like a human. Even from far away or under water or if the sailors were drinking or whatever, I don't believe that you could mistake a manatee for a half-human half-fish.

Any thoughts or resources?

(Please, no rude comments. I'm just curious.)

  1. Do i believe in them NO, (not on earth anyway), DO i love them YESSS!!!!

  2. I believe in mermaids but i have no real interest in them. Some claim they have found them, but they are all fake. But i think they are out there, hiding from us so we don`t capture them or anything.

  3. I believe they were Manatee's.  If your very drunk and it's dark, sure they can look like women.  They are very curvy and gentle. Don't mean to offend you though.

  4. I don't know if they looked like Ariel, But i do believe some form on sea going humanoid did or does exist in the seas.

  5. I hope they are real

  6. mermaids don't exist.  hope this doesn't hurt your feelings.

  7. I'm not going to say it's impossible but it is highly improbable. I hate when people say something is impossible because nobody knows for absolutely sure.

  8. human does not evolve from ape science has proven that ape, monkey, gorilla, human evolves from common ancestor..

and as for real mermaid, i dont really know, but all i believe in is in spiritual stuff like seeing a ghost mermaid..

  9. Nope!  I think folklore evolves over time.  Certain images carry symbolic weight, changing over aeons, and people eventually believe in their reality.  There's no way to disproove their existence, but so far, I trust in the academic establishment's denial thereof.  Cryptozoologists are nuts.

  10. Oh yes, I will not be rude, I believe.  There didn't used to be any, but back in the 1970s some were dropped from a UFO into the ocean, and they are beginning to multiply.  Fishermen never catch them because they are smart like humans and cannot be caught.

  11. My grandfather passed away recently and he believed in fairys and elfs. He said that he saw elfs moving things around in his house. When my uncle went to him house to collect some things after he passed away he said that he saw elfs also. So that left me thinking that all these things could be true....

  12. I think it would be awsome!! and unicorns too!!

as for beleiving i am not to sure, but these storys had to come from somewhere.

  13. well what i believe is everything is real until proven wrong. for the longest time he giant squid was believe to be an old sailors tale till the found one in a sperm whales stomach and some other washed up on the shore. and they even got video footage of one...

so its very plausible they are real. i think they are =]

  14. I think the people that see "mermaids" are just mistaking something else. It is impossible for a human to have a part-fish body.

  15. I Do Agree With You I Totally Believe In Mermaids!

  16. i do believe in mermaids. i've seen ghosts and some paranormals so how come mermaids don't exist?

i have read a pocket book that stated: merpeople were once living in land which we call atlantis. when a volcano erupted, this city sunk underwater. that's why it is called " the lost city of atlantis". people living in this city adapted the underwater environment and turned out to be mermaids. i generally believe that is a greek mythology. these creatures have the ability to hypnotise if you hear them sing, they say.
