Question:

Do you believe in superstition?

First off, I don't, but how about this little coincidence?

There have been two teams come back from being down 3 games to 0.

The Toronto Maple Leafs in 1942. Then 33 years later, the New York Islanders in 1975. Ironically, in 1942, the Leafs victim was the Detroit Red Wings.......in 1975, the New York Islanders victim was the Pittsburgh Penguins.....

Flash forward.....33 YEARS later.........the Detroit Red Wings and Pittsburgh Penguins have their chance to keep the trend alive.

Mere coincidence, I don't have faith that either the Flyers or the Stars can perform the feat but still.......an interesting little tidbit!

  1. nice pick up there i hope the stars can do it

  2. If I didn't believe in superstition would I have this itchy monstrosity on my face?

  3. I am a hockey player of course I do. WE all have our little rituals. The hockey gods must be appeased

  4. yeah, i was hoping the avalanche could do it. boohoo. too many injuries and the redwings, despite how much i hate them, were very hot at that point (and by red wings i mean Johan Franzen). but i'd still like to see the stars do it. i think the flyers have a better chance, though.

  5. Nah, I can't say I believe in superstitions.  And I'm with you, I don't believe either team will do it.  But then again history tends to repeat itself.  You know what they say, third times a charm, well in this case, 33rd year is a charm.

And about that Islanders team in '75, didn't they also erase a 3-0 deficit to the Flyers.  They still lost the series but that's pretty impressive, coming back 3-0 twice in one playoff year.

  6. ^ Lubers is a decent man without any biases. His grandma was a Soviet tank maker. His family moved to Guelph at an early age where he performed Origami for priests in bathrobes.  Ever since he has been 2 cards short of a Uno deck.

  7. S**t...now im worried!

  8. the 33 yr theory is ironic. and i love channel 6 bringing that up but not mentioning that the two teams that have lost are the ones in question. Bob will your faith go up if the Flyers win game 5?. i dont think Pittsburgh will give it away but i do think that the Flyers could "take it".  Malkin is a no show the last 3 games after getting hit so much. Crosby got frustrated easily the other night as he always does when pressure is applied to heavily. yes that is only but two of their players but in every Flyers win on them this season that is how it started

the Flyers will lose this series if they back off like in the 3rd the other night but if they play HARD the Pens might play right into their hands with some bad penalties. Please let the pens take some runs at Richards as retaliation for the other night. but i hope Richards starts the way he finished "aggressively" something Crosby does not like that alone could spell a Flyers win

  9. Laying Low : if the 50 million pound challenge is any indicatation of the "health issues" facing America, then Kate Smith would be considered "fit" these days. Maybe she and QueenLatifah can do an emotional duet called 'I pig out with a little help from my friend'

Oh as far as the coincidence goes Bob that's the media for you one minute they'll say 3+3 = 6 (sign of the devil, which is why Mickey Mantle changed his number to 7) but it is indeed a tad bit ironic.

I meant that the media plays a role in that unlikely scenarios (Flyers + Dallas trying to come back from a 0-3 hole in their respective series) can boost TV ratings/fan interest. Nothing more, nothing less.

  10. ^^^Kate ain't fat no mo'.

Yes I believe in them. The hockey Gods you can't p**s off.How many times do we see it here on the board, people excited about how great Biron is playing and its after the first. Then BAM 2 goals in a minute.Alot of Pens fans were asking about the brooms then look what happened then you ask this question so maybe I shouldn't answ.......

  11. I do believe in superstitions, if you have ever noticed, I answer the same to each question about who will win each Flyers game.  I have others.  A friend of mine pointed out that "trend" last week but I am with you, I don't see either team pulling off that feat either.

  12. Sorry Bob, the Flyers don't have fat Kate Smith and her one square mile red carpet to save them this time, lol.

  13. LOL--- Ever the optimist you are, Bob..

Nah-- me neither..  Interesting nonetheless.. I think Philly has the better chance of pulling it off if it's gonna happen.. Imagine how the "Wach" would be if the get another shot at home??

Dallas has disappointed in this series-- thought they could take it to 7-- as I thought the Avs could make it go 6..  Dont tell me a gutted Preds team is their best competition in the conference postseason..

If the  complete 360 is accomplished by either Philly or Dallas, you can add Ms.Cleo to your speed dial.. Till then I think its just that-- an interesting tidbit..

  14. Yeah that's kinda cool. I believe only in jynxing games, though. Like, if there are any questions about whether the Flyers will win or not on NHL.com, I won't answer.

  15. If that happens, it will ALL be your fault...

  16. I believe in them somewhat...in my religion we don't believe in superstitions but when it comes to sports I can't help myself. Superstitions is how I explain why the Leafs haven't won a cup since '67. But that is definitely interesting, first everybody was saying the 33 years later thing and now this too. I can only hope that the Flyers and Stars come back although I don't see it happening.
