Is believing in the First Testament and knowing the world is over 6000 years old a contradiction in terms?

  1. I think you mean the Old Testament, mainly Genesis.  Actually, I'm an Evolutionist.


  2. There's more than one type of belief.

    There are those who insist that the Bible is literally true and entirely free of error.  They are the ones who never read it carefully.  Genesis ch. 1 gives an account of creation where man and woman are created last; Genesis ch. 2 gives a different account where man is created, then all the other creatures of the earth, and finally woman.  At least one of those accounts cannot be true, literally, since they contradict each other.

    On the other hand, if you want to view the Bible as a collection of ancient writings from people who were spiritually inspired, then there's no reason to consider it a contradiction to say you believe it in that way while accepting the conclusions of science about the age of this planet and the origins of species.

  3. If you believe what  it proclaims literally  YES, you incur in contradiction.

    If you interpret what it proclaims, NO, you don't incur in contradiction with the idea of evolution.

  4. Yes, I believe in the NEW TESTAMENT.
