The Mayans made no predictions about 2012. They simply had a long calendar cycle which ended about then. The next long cycle starts the next day. The predictions which surround this date are made by pseudo scientists who have mis-interpreted, either deliberately or ignorantly, and have had this mis-information spread throughout the world by the Internet and books which they have written.

You will not find any serious Mayan scholar offering an opinion about this, because it belongs in the realm of mythology and astrology.
