  1. Changing thoughts alone may not be enough..for what you think has been influenced by what you have experienced and what you have been taught. Merely changing what you think would be cosmetic, shallow and could be turned on and off depending where you are in life.... however to change the way you act not only changes you, it changes and influences all those around you...so rather I would say.. " you are what you do ".

  2. I think it's a good idea to be open to other views and always ready to change your mind if you come to the conclusion you were wrong. So no it does not change your personality but maybe it makes you a nicer person

  3. Yeah, to an extent and if you apply your mind to it. If I feel that I'm happy and if I act happy around people I can then keep it up. However, if I'm at one of the extremes - extreme happiness or extreme sadness - I can't keep my feelings control

  4. NO you cant.look at tony blair pretending to be our prime minister.people can only percieve you as you really are.anything else is bogus.you dont get respect by sh.....ing on people.

  5. No. Regardless of what you think, you are still yourself.

  6. I believe that we create our own realities.  If a person believes they are a bird then for them, they are a bird.  It doesn't mean that you an I will see them grow feathers or fly though.

So you answer your question - Yes, I do believe that we can be anything we want to be if we believe hard enough.

  7. I think I'm a bird... oh look, i can fly...

    yeah, it works...

  8. You can alter your self limiting belief systems, and change your inner dialogue, and your actions, but we all have different limits for the things we can change.

  9. It depends how serious you are!  The bible teaches that we can be changed by the renewing of our minds.  So I think it is possible for us to change as we follow the teachings of Jesus Christ.

  10. No. I think I'm a spoon.

  11. You are responsible for your thinking. Change your thinking and life will get better. But, what thoughts do you change? Your troublesome thoughts about a situation can easily be found in your self-talk. Self-talk is that inner running dialogue you have with yourself. It is what you tell yourself about life's situations.

All of us have a voice that talks to us. You might think of it as your conscience. It might be that "inner observer" who seems to sits in the corner and watches everything you do. You may recognize it as that voice that starts talking to you upon awakening in the morning. Sometimes it may wait until you look in the mirror before it actually speaks. It is that voice that says, "You sure are handsome." or "What a wonderful person you are." Or "You are going to have a great day." It might say, "You are so slim and your hair looks beautiful." If you don’t' recognize this voice then yours may be speaking to you in a different tone. You might be hearing, "You look like c**p today" or "You sure have gained a lot of weight." "Your hair is a mess." "It's is a terrible day! Get back in bed." This voice, the negative, critical one, is one of the main reasons we have so many problems. It can destroy resiliency by opening the flood gates and draining away your energy.

To change your attitude you must change the inner dialogue. To change the dialogue you must catch it in action. To do this you have to pay attention to yourself. You must engage in self-observation and listen for that inner voice.

The next time that you find yourself feeling "bad" don’t start asking, "Who did this to me?" Don’t start looking around for the external cause of your problems. What you should do is to ask yourself, "What have I been thinking?" "What have I been telling my self?" You may find that your inner dialogue has put you deep into emotional distress

  12. Be careful what you wish for, because if you cause yourself to become something that you are truly not within then you are on a path of self destruction.

  13. Yes, I think so to a certain extent but I think it would only be a temporary change ( or an act, if you will ) for example, I would act v.differently around my teachers than I would act with my friends because you know your boundaries and you automatically think how to act when put in certain situations. However, I am probably my real self around my friends and I'm only acting around my teachers until I can get back to my friends, if you see what I mean. So yes you can become another person but only temporarily until you can revert back to the social situation that best allows you to show your true personality. Good question by the way I hope I gave you another way of looking at it. Alex.

  14. makes u wanne think

  15. Yes I think so. If you change your thoughts, you confidence levels, etc. wil change causing you to give a differant impression to other people and basically become someone else!

  16. Of course. How you think determines how you act and therefore who you are. It's that simple.

  17. To a certain extent one does become another person in life. Look back on your life and you'll see a change in who you have been and what you are becoming. Changes in thinking reflect that change.

  18. You can change many things about your personality within limits. I will never be an NBA star nor an Einstein no matter how much I think about it.

I can be less angry, more attentive, more assertive, etc...

  19. I believe you are who you are , not necessarily who you think you  are.

I don't however think you can change who you really are inside. You can hide who you are and pretend to be a different way but in reality you are still you.

I think you can choose to change parts of your life and surroundings, and put on false impressions. But why would you wanna do that.

The system tries to rehabilitate inmates and personally, I don't think a person can change who they are deep down in side. they can like I said only change the way they view things. Life is a struggle, if it weren't, what fun would that be?

  20. cognitive behaviour therapy is based on this concept, change the way you think, change the person you are, i think it has merit

  21. That's what actors do.

  22. You are who you are until you choose to be different.

  23. Ever heard of NLP? Neuro Lingustic Programming - this might give you some insites

Myself  - to an extent, obviously people will say silly things, which will make me laugh too

  24. well, i think... yes.

  25. Lets differentiate between "thinking" and "believing". I've counseled people and asked them what they believed about something and got one answer, and then asked them what they believed and got a totally different answer. What you really believe affects how you live. Thoughts can be all over the map! No matter what you think, you will always be you; but what you do about your beliefs may make you a "better" you.
