Do you believe that the ability to speak freely comes at any cost at all. I'm not talking about monetary cost.

Does it come with a price of sacrifice?

And, if so, what kind of sacrifice do you think assures it?

  1. Of course it comes at a price. You have to acknowledge the opinions of those you don't agree with.

It's easy to stand up for your rights but hard to stand up for your enemy.

Watch "the People vs. Larry Flynt". Woody Harrelson is phenomenal playing the creator of Hustler Magazine. While a self labeled smutt pedaler, he went all the way to the Supreme Court to support the right to free speech.

  2. only if you excercise it.

  3. free speech is not free unless your with like minded trusted people. every action has a reaction.

  4. calm down and stop worrying

  5. personally i think that "freedom of speech" is just a disillusioned cover up to make us think that we are free to express our opinions . society reflects this today ,in the way that we can say what we want but we must remain within boundary's ,is this what they call free?.

if you speak as freely as you want then you will eventually have to pay a price for not holding your tongue ,weather it be your reputation or your life ,the boundary's still exist.

  6. yes it does. bec ur expressinng ur thoughts freely and some ppl dont like thatt.

  7. yes talking freely does come with some consequences

  8. All our freedoms have been paid for with the blood of every man and women who couregeously and unselfishly layed thier lives down in war to gaurantee you and me those freedoms. GOD BLESS THEM ALL!!!!!

  9. Well I know you weren't talking about monetary costs, but I was thinking about this a while ago, and I realized that freedom of speech comes with the limitation that while you might be able to say anything you want, only the people who can afford to get their message out to the greatest number of people will really have an impact. An example of this would be the any small human rights organization vs. a major advertiser. Even though the majority of Americans might actually want/need to hear the organization's views, they probably won't be exposed to it. On the other hand, we have advertisers who can spend hundreds of millions of dollars expressing their views on whatever, and in most cases we have to be exposed to it, there's no avoiding it.

So in short, yeah, the price of freedom of speech is that it self-regulates to the point where the people with the most money and power get their voices heard, and everyone else is left to whisper to themselves.

  10. I don't know where you are going but "free Speech" is between you and the government. You have no other "free" speech protected by the 1st Amendment. If you read the Military Commissions Act of 2006, you don't have that either!

So what is your point. Bush is taking away freedoms and most of you don't have a thing to say! Well, you won't get them back, no matter the cost!

I suggest you haven't a clue what "free speech" is, but that's OK. most of you don't. And most of you were never in a war...that had NOTHING to do with free speech! I gave in Vietnam...now what are YOU going to give?

The price of sacrifice America has already said they are willing to give is to turn their backs on the US Constitution. I didn't and I never will! But many of you have s my personal opinion or we would not have to pass laws protecting telephone companies for giving the government ALL of your protected speech! Now that IS protected under the 1st Amendment! And you let them get away with it. Warrantless searches, elimination of habeas corpus and 6 of the 1st 10 Amendments. By the way, the law giving the phone companies immunity for vio;ating your rights is unconstitutional. You can't change the constitution by legislation ( there are only 2 ways in the Constitution to amend it and legislation is not one of them).....but you let them get away with that as well!!

I guess I would have to say that you. like most, are clueless about the US Constitution and what has been done to it! I bet that you, and probably none of your Representatives ever read the Military Commissions Act of 2006 ( Two clauses have already been struck down by the 9th circuit court of appeals!)!

Sacrifice....the Iraqis are sacrificing...and only a few are from the US! That is except giving up all of your Constitutional rights for a little so called security! And I question whether you are even doing that in Iraq as they had nothing to do with 9/11 or terrorist! Oh, those terrorist (civil war) in Iraq! If the shoe were on the other foot I would be a terrorist as I would be buiding IED's! When the colonies were fighting the British they were never called terrorists. Wasn't the term something like "Patriot"? Hmmmmmmmmm!

  11. of course it's not free. many people have died so that we have the right to free speech.

  12. nothing is ever free

  13. it cost the lives of thousand of minutemen and revolutionaries in the late 1700s and then some more in 1812, the spanish american war, the civil war, world wars 1 and 2, korea, vietnam, and the modern crises.

it also costs the reputations and lives of all those who defy authority to support freedom

  14. There is no such thing as Free Speech to me. Whenever someone says something "controversy" in the public and critics (whoever these ppl may be) eyes, they r scrutinized and trashed in the mud like a pig trampling around at play time. If speech was Free, every dumb thing the president has said would have gone unnoticed...or all these comments about the presidential hopefuls or kanye west rant or all the many screwd up statements made....if speech was free, no one would have to apologize for what they said wrong. Speech is as free as we are of slavery, speech is as free as tax free paychecks, speech is as free as the soldiers fighting Bush's war!

The only things free in this world are the things u steal

  15. No... I say something wrong on Yahoo and I get booted.... (just kidding Yahoo!)
