  1. I know race is a meaningful classification, even though a considerable amount of bluring around the edges occurs & many exceptions exist. While race is indeed a social construct, & rife with errors, it can become very important when diagnosing illness & methods of treatment.  Until very recently the denial of racial differences led to treating every illness as if the patient were a white male, but both s*x & race make a huge difference when selecting a proper diagnoses & treatment.

Race can be divided into 3 geographical groupings (Sub Saharan African, North African/ME./European, and Asian.) Because some Africans are genetically closer to Europeans or Asians than to other Africans (in all but skin color), this grouping is flawed, but lacking a complete sequencing of their genome, useful to the medical profession when determining the appropriate treatment.  Asians are perhaps the most difficult group to diagnose.  Therefore, until a better genetic construct is in place, we are stuck with race.

  2. Race is just a word for what it actually is.  Have I ever felt labeled?  I don't think so because it's just the matter of grouping.  But yes, some people do take this seriously.  I would if someone said all of my race was "this" and that I was like that too.  I hate being labeled, especially by some good-for-nothing racist people.

  3. Everyone has been labelled.

On the one hand: I wish people would stop because specific demographics of the human race aren't terrorists. America is a country based on lies.

On the other hand: Being little gray blobs isn't cool either. I like caucasions, africans, jamaicans, asians, germans...etc, etc. I love accents, I thinks they're beautiful.

So, real life sucks and utopia sucks but, they both have a flip side; certain aspects that would make them cool. I prefer living in the real world, with my various types of friends.

  4. Yes it is real.  I know people that race everyday :P

  5. I believe differences in groups are real, and the differences can be painstakingly placed into several categories, therefore I believe race is real-  unfortunately they have not been able to find any one definite factor that defines our present racial categories, so though I do recognize differences in the human species, I cannot agree with how they are defined, and so I do not agree with our current racial categorizations.

There is for a large part more variation within persons of the "same race" while large similarities in persons from "different races."

For this reason, I think the main issue with "race" is not that people do not recognize the differences, the problem arrives with the categorical definitions, which are all immensely flawed, much too loosely based, illogical and inconsistent.

I think in order to classify humans we need to be subdivided into much smaller categories, I think we would eventually find a common factor that links a certain group, and is only within that group, but what we would end up with is tens of thousands or millions  of classifications/ "races". Caucasian, mongoloid and n3groid simply are not cutting it in terms of accuracy from my point of view and is a lazy approach at classifying us a species, because they feel but will never admit that the task is almost impossible as the human species is ever changing through adaptation and intermixing as well as evolution.

Of course classifying humans by thousands of categories just so we could find the common factor within each one would probably make little difference in the end, as many of those factors are almost undetectable to the naked eye and humans do naturally tend to classify by phenotype.

  6. I believe it is. People of Asian origin look differnt in genral to those of European. Same with Aboriginal, African etc.

Down at a chemical level we aren't very different at all. But there are physical differences. And White European has repeatedly conquered lots of other nations. Every other continent to an extent in fact.

  7. There is one race - the human race.

The genetic differences between the different people groups are minute. The DNA of any two people in the world would typically differ by just 0.2%. Of this, only 6% can be

linked to racial categories; the rest is ‘within race’ variation.

  8. I believe it. A lagre number of geneticists and biologists believe it too, and even endanger their careers admitting it.

To say it does automatically get some people to label you as racist though.

The races aren't just cosmetic, there are difference in things like pregnancy length and lifespan, sometimes very big differences. Pygmies hit their peak fertility at 15 and are geriatric at 50, and are teeny tiny. If we saw hominid bones from 100k years ago that different we wouldn't hesitate to call them a sub species.

  9. Yes.  It is real.  But what IT is is negotiable.

Read one of Cornell West's books if you need clarification.

Basically - social facts are as real as any other facts - whether we like them or not.
