  1. I do believe she was led by God. The amazing facts of her short life seem to support this.

Joan, a poor and uneducated peasant girl, not only won over many expert military commanders but was directly responsible for lifting the seige at Orleans, upon which the fact of France rested. She accomplished this in a mere 9 days.

Her subsequent victories led to the coronation of the weak and reluctant Charles VII's at Reims and settled the long-disputed succession to the throne.

Recent scholarship has brought to light the distinct possibility that Joan contributed much more than morale to the French army - by some accounts her fellow officers esteemed her as a skilled tactician and a successful strategist.

Again, this is a poor uneducated farm girl we're talking about. Clearly, she was being led and aided by a higher power.

Even the trial which led to her execution was not based upon religious objections; the charge of witchcraft was used because it was inflammatory and sensational. But the real animosity against Joan was politically motivated.

A mere 24 years later the Church reviewed the case and found her to be totally innocent, and declare her a martyr who died in God's service.

Joan was also a very virtuous girl, something most movies have failed to portray. She was a pious child who loved God and while leading the French army she set an example for them by partaking frequently of the Sacraments, encouraging the soldiers to live righteously, and even driving loose women from the camps because they were a danger to men's souls.

  2. First of all you have to believe in god(s) to believe in angels. Second, one doesn't have to believe in god(s) to understand that Jeanne (Jean is male!) did believe in God, as practically everybody did in those days. Those that didn't got invitations to bbq's.

So, Jeanne did hear voices, at least that is what she believed. Today those people are usually getting psychiatric help.

  3. I believe that she heard the voices of the saints as she claimed she did.  and I don't believe the was physiciatrically disturbed.  i think she had a mission to raise the seige of Orleans and crown the Dauphin, and she did it, against all the odds.
