  1. I'd say that the vast majority of depression is just that - depression. There are enough dark and oppressive things in the life of anyone to cause depression.

I do, however, consent to the possibility that a portion, the extreme minority, happens as the result of outside influence which has yet to be defined. A lot of terms like "demon" or "devil" I find too crass - but the simple fact is that aviation and gunpowder were once seen as evil dark magic by the church (which was the ruling faction).

Now, the Ruling Faction is that of Scientific Reason, and anything spiritual suddenly doesn't exist or is mumbo-jumbo. Don't you think it silly to be as closed minded as your predecessor? I think that the spiritual exists and that one day, probably far down the road, science will better grasp and define it - but for the time being, they are still trying to distance themselves from it (probably because the first scientists were burned as witches... can't hold a grudge).

So - all that to say, yes I think that SOME depression comes from things outside the person that we can barely define or explain, but I believe it is the vast minority.

  2. yes, indeed i do. when spirits are around and disrturb they generally weaken a person causing them to probably get depressed. remember i asked a question abt an 18 yr old friend of mine.. who got possessed.. he too went thru depresiion during that phase. however, he is better now, they have moved house and he is no longer possessed and has started college.

  3. depression no.  oppression yes.  There is a thin line there because it makes you feel about the same way.  Perhaps you are what is referred to an an empath.  That is a person who is able to feel others emotions in a very powerful way.  The thing is that with ghost and spirits, if you pick up on their emotions it can make you very sad or angry.  It is often mistaken for evil or demonic but a lot of times it isn't.  It is just that some pick up on it sharper than others.

  4. By spirits do you mean drinking alcohol - then NO.

If you mean Casper and company also a big fat NO.

  5. Yes I do believe that sometimes mental depression can be caused by spirits. 'Enmeshment' can occur where a spirit can attach to someone - usually when they are already vulnerable due to a crisis situation. But instead of improving, as the initial situation improved, they get increasingly worse - changes in personality, character, and behaviour - far removed from the person that they once were. Thoughts are generally not there own - and they question as to where the thoughts are coming from - as they cannot find a logical reason as to why they feel the way they feel. I have known someone who did recover  from the experience after a spiritual healing.  What I refer to is an extreme depression, although I note that you also refer to picking up on others feelings and thoughts - you will eventually be able to filter and protect yourself and only pick up on the relevant. Hope this helps to answer your question.

  6. It's an interesting hypothesis Denie.  How would you propose this be tested?  Personally, since there is no empirical evidence of spirits but there is for depression I have a difficult time seeing a connection.

  7. I believe that it could come from demons

  8. Many times when investigating hauntings I will pick up the emotions of spirits.  (this one of the reasons I always warn people that wish that they could suddenly become psychic, its not always fun). The feeling you get a lot is that they can not believe they are dead, why did this happen to  me, where is my family.  Luckily I go home when done, but the people who live there are often surrounded with these emotions day and night.  Many times we are called in because the family is breaking apart because of this felling of depression and despair.  Sometimes it will take days for me to shed this emotionally heavy feeling.

  9. Honey, you're an empath. How do I know this?? That "whammo" feeling you described to JohnS. Classic sign of empathy. I'm an empath and I absorb other's emotions like a sponge. I read an article once (of which I didn't keep, darnit) that said that was one way to tell that an emotion wasn't your own--if it's sudden and completely not in line with how you were just feeling.

But yeah, it could come from a spirit. I very often feel the emotions of the spirits in the house, especially the children that come to me for help.

  10. It can also come from spirits who are very much alive.  If it happens where you are surrounded by people, look around and see if you can tell if someone is in a dark mood.

Perhaps that person needs an encouraging word or friendly attitude from someone.   But don't get sucked in by becoming the confidant of a chronically depressed person.

  11. This one may come as a surprise, but I absolutely believe this is possible. This is not the case with all depression, but it is a symptom of demonic possession as highlighted in the Bible. We see in the Book of Samuel, King Saul rebels against God and is inhabited by an evil spirit who makes him depressed and fills him with the desire to kill David.

Other biblical symptoms of demon possession are epilepsy, blindness, and psychic abilities. Of course, we can't assume that all epileptics, blind people, and depressed people are demon possessed. Just that the possibilty is there.

For the record, this is my religious belief and not my scientific opinion, as I can not back any of it up with strong evidence.

  12. I believe that people that have mental illness can be easier contacted . They have less self denial and are not afraid because they are used to having things" different". Most of the time others don't listen to what they experience.

  13. Like demons you mean? I wonder that also, but I am pretty skeptical and believe it's just mental illness.

  14. I think it's true they can make your moods change...depending if they are negative spirits.

By the way,  what was the passage that you read in the book that made it go away?

    can you please post it?

    Thanks

    ...and thanks for the link.

  15. since i did some research i discovered i might be empath those gutty feelings crying when I'm listening certain songs while watching news Lot's of people think something is wrong with me  i always knew when someone have crush on me but I'm often sad than happy most of the time misunderstood fillings so intense that sometimes i want to trow up sometimes I'm asking my self why it have to heart so much i can not stand the pain by the way i sense that you Dennie you are nice and kind when i look at your profile and reading your questions/answers i have a warm feeling in my gut so you must be someone very caring and good hearted

  16. Maybe a mild form of depression.

A spirit is energy and our bodies absorb energy as they give it off, so if a spirit is that of a sad, lonely, or manic person then the energy would be there for us to suck in and therefor we would have those effects on our life.

However if we were removed from the area then we would return to our normal selves without medication or counseling.

  17. they say they can leave bad vibes behind and we can feel them, like if you ever go into a building and dont like it that's usually residue from a bad spirit,

  18. I definitely believe spirits can affect your emotions.  I also believe that the energy in a house or location can also affect your emotions.

For example, I currently live in a home in which I know that the previous owner had a serious anger problem.  I met the man at closing and immediately noticed that he was seething with anger.  His own real estate agent hated him.

Then I noticed that the previous refrigerator had a dent in it.  It looked like someone banged it against one of the cabinets.

Then when I took down the wall paper in the kitchen, I noticed huge holes in the walls that were never repaired.  It looks like he would kick and punch the walls.  Then he just covered it up with spackle and wall paper.  Crazy.

There was one wall that we completely replaced b/c there were so many holes punched through it.

Anyway, the point of this story is that I have experienced what I call mood transference in this kitchen.  It doesn't happen often but when it does, it's dramatic.  I can be in a great mood but when I walk into the kitchen I start feeling really angry for no reason.  The anger just starts seething in me.  I don't even know where it's coming from.  I don't even know what I'm angry about.  For some reason it happens primarily in the kitchen.

I don't know if you have a religious belief system but the only thing that works for me is to pray.  When I start feeling that anger creeping up inside I start to pray and it subsides.

If you believe that you're feeling depression due to a spirit, chemical imbalance, or situational depression, you may want to consider taking up meditation to clear your mind and give you peace.

If a spirit or energy is invading your space.  You need to claim your space.

  19. There is no such thing as the world of spirits.  It's all a bunch of hogwash that people invented to try and make themselves feel better.
