  1. I, as an atheist, place high value on all life, especially human, which is why I denounce faith. Faith is dangerous and baseless, and devalues the person who holds it.

  2. In general no.  Many of the animal rights supporters I know are xian.  However in some countries the xians do seem to take great delight in slaughtering animals for fun.

  3. I don't think so, even though there are things about some religions that would suggest that, such as believing humans have souls but that other animals do not.  As far as the UK goes, many millions of people including religious/christians love animals and take great care over their well being, although Spanish culture is different, I suspect that individuals there are just the same:) I went on about animals and forgot about humans:)  I think most people regardless of religion or lack of, put equal value on human life, they just have a different perspective on the nature of that life:) :)

  4. For the most part, yes.

  5. Without a doubt.

As I've said before, you aren't going to be able to enjoy Trentham Gardens so much if you know you're going to Alton Towers next week.  As an atheist, I believe this life is all we get -- there is no "fantasy theme park for dead people" to look forward to if we pass some test.  I enjoy being alive, most of the time, and I believe that other people probably feel the same way.  Whilst not a vegetarian  (I tried, but I got ill -- I think I'm somewhat taurase-deficient)  I at least try to choose m**t products that have been produced to high standards of animal welfare.

And P.T. -- quality of life is paramount.  I support euthanasia because I believe it's better to die with dignity than be kept alive artificially.  When death is all you've got to look forward to, you really don't want to be looking forward to it for long.  And I support abortion because there are times when bringing an unwanted child into the world would damage quality of life for the mother, the child or society at large.

  6. I believe they're more balanced, and down to Earth.

I do think they are more genuine, so yes, I do believe they place higher value on human and animal life.

  7. not as a general. Hopefully all people have a high value on human and animal life

  8. Some of us do.   We don't carelessly toss certain people into bins marked "lesser than" because a little book tells us to, or because some religious leader says they're "sinners". It also seems that atheists are more likely to be vegetarians (as I am) whereas Christians use the "god said we have dominion over the animals" line to defend eating meat, or even indiscriminate killing of animals.

  9. I prefer to take such things on a person-to-person basis.

  10. Not exclusively, even though i have met way more vegan atheists then theists...I personally hold a very high value on all life...

  11. Can't generalize of course, but I suspect we at least relatively place a higher value on this life, since we accept it as the only one we have which is over when we die.  Since we are not merely awaiting/working towards a better eternal life, this life by definition must be the most important thing, whereas for Abrahamic believers, their eternal afterlife (regardless of when that happens just in case the Jews think I don't know the difference) would obviously be more important than their brief terrestrial one.

  12. If you look at the reasoning they shouldn't, but many times they do.

  13. no.

  14. Yes, obviously.

  15. obviously

  16. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. You can't really make the division, and both sides have horrific regimes and movements that the other side can point at.

  17. I don't know enough of each group to say.  Buddhists tend to be atheists even though they are of faith and there are lots of them and they're famous for respecting life so that might skew the results.

On a related note, I have definitely noticed that biologists tend to place more value on life than others.  It's sort of disturbing when you meet people who don't though and thankfully, I think most people do, regardless of beliefs.  We actually do agree on most moral issues.  It's just that some people assume others don't because they assume morality is taught from a book or religion rather than innate or cultural.

  18. no, nor is there any reason to think that.

  19. Yes. With all the euthanasia and abortion they promote, they adore life obviously.

    C'MON!!!!!!!!!!!
