That with a fully funded program (like the space race to the moon) that it could be achieved and the country would never need to import fossel fuels again or be dependant on any other nation for fuel?

  1. Maybe, but not definitely. Going to the Moon was a totally different kind of problem, where vast resources were used to put just 12 men on the Moon. What you are proposing is finding a way to make vast resources that do not exist today available to hundreds of millions of people. That is a task and problem of a totally different kind, and much harder to do.

  2. We have unlimited access to alternative fuel sources today thanks in large part to the space race you referred to.  There's no need to wait 10 years. All we have to do is fork out enough money to convert our homes, cars and everything else we own to solar or wind power.  There are too many people working in too many companies with too much money invested in fossil fuels for the government to implement a drastic change to renewable energy.  It has to come from the people, and so far we have not been willing to make that change.  Perhaps the current price of gas will provide the impetus for the sane people of the world to start the revolution.

  3. It is possible.  We, as Americans, should be able to accomplish what we put our minds and efforts towards.  Unfortunately patriotism and the can-do attitude have faltered since the apollo  program.  Also, the quality of our education system has also faltered since then, producing many more ineducated  :) people.

  4. i believe

  5. Yes, I do. I recently read, from a usually reliable source, that within twenty years we'll have solar cells that are cheap enough and efficient enough to meet all of our energy needs for the foreseeable future. I'm sure that could be cut to ten years if we committed to it. It took less than that to design, build, test, and fly the Apollo missions. Solar power is really the only viable long term option anyway, since fossil, fission, and fusion all add extra heat to our already warming planet.

  6. No. What other fuel will we use? Biofuels? Yeah, then the price of food will go up. Wind power? Huge taxes. Solar? again, huge taxes, and the latter two wouldn't work for a space craft. we don't use oil in NASA anyway. We use chemicals that when combined provide huge amounts of thrust.

  7. Yes I do believe that and I don't think it would take ten years either. I think we could do it in 3 years.

  8. i think so. in fact, i think we could have done it ten yrs ago, but it is the ignorance of the idiots and oil men we have in the wight house right now that is holding back progress.
