People are judged by the colour of their skin rather than their personality/character? Do you think racism has gotten better over the years?

  1. No. I think that it's simply gone underground because of political correctness and threat of law. You cannot legislate beliefs.

  2. I believe that people today are idiots, plain and simple and by the way the only color that matters is green.

Which used to be the color of a dollar before they made it g*y and not worth a F*CK.

  3. Oh it has gotten better but we are not in a color-blind Utopia yet, nor will that happen for a long time, unfortunatelly! But at least we have gotten over slavery, appartheid etc... and that, as minimal as it seems considering we are supposed to be a: MODERN society is at least..something!

  4. I dont think racism has gotten better.

I have known black families that tell their children about how bad whitey is, how the white man owes them, etc.

Anyone time any race gets special allowances for jobs or education it is racist.

To end racism we need to put it behind us and start with a clean slate. Yes..I said it, forget about slavery.

Lets move on. I am teaching my daughter that there is no difference in skin color and that we should love everyone the same.

But I don't bring up how I have been beaten up by a gang of blacks...because it was in the past AND because that wasn't all black people.  Just like slavery in the US was/is not  an accuratge representation of all white people.

  5. I think attitude and perhaps mode of dress is far more of a factor when it comes to prejudging a person rather than skin colour.

  6. I personally think racism is making a comeback. When I was coming of age 15-20 years ago there was a collective propensity among many Caucasian people to view African Americans (and other minority groups such as Hispanics and Native Americans) as a victim race. Many of the white, suburban friends I had felt a sense of guilt and empathy for all of the hurt and embarrassment our ancestors bequeathed to present day minorities. When the Los Angeles riots erupted in 1991 (after the acquittal of the police officers who nearly beat black motorist Rodney King to death) many white people felt that it was an expression of justified rage that was long overdue.

I think things have changed within the last 5 years or so. I see a growing tendency among young people to act indirectly (and sometimes directly and unabashedly) racist. I don't know what to attribute this to. Maybe after nearly 8 years of Bush the Conservative/Republican mindset of independent self-reliance is rubbing off on everybody. After all, conservatives are strongly opposed to anybody receiving free handouts and subsidies from the government. Everybody is supposed to pull themselves up by the bootstraps.

I still can't decide what's worse: our kids becoming racist or having them believe that it is not the government's responsibility to provide safety nets and give people a hand up when they're in need.

  7. only stupid people judg by colour of skin or religion!

i'm smart and i know that we are all humans and we all share the same blood!! so there for stupid people judg smart people don't !!

  8. personality definetly. i know blacks and i know *******, i know whites and i know crakers and on and on. crakers and ******* are still racist but whites and blacks are no longer, u get what im trying to say?

  9. yes, like when you see a black guy at night all you can think of is running away from him.. you immediatly see him as a bad person.

  10. I don't think racism has gotten any better. I think there has been progress made in order to get equal rights for people of color, but that doesn't mean in overall society is there equality. Since being racist in society is not acceptable these days, racism is a lot more covert than it ever used to be. I think that while it's easy to assume that if laws are passed that allow for equal treatment that there is equal treatment, but this just isn't true for all people or every place. There will always be racism on the personal level, I think, but it isn't as obvious, because it's not as acceptable to have these prejudices as it once was. It would be nice to think that things have improved, but race is a systemic problem and that is a very hard thing to put changes into, because it is not always beneficial for those people higher up in these systems to make changes that call for equality.

  11. Yes, I think sometimes people are judged that way.  It's gotten better over the years, but racism still occurs.

  12. Racism has DEFINATLY gotten better over the years. Only 50 or so years ago, black people were not even allowed to use the same water fountains, bathrooms, restaurants, etc. I think that people are judged more often for their achievements, personal qualities, etc..than the colour of their skin.
