Question:

Do you believe that practice of Islam should be modernized

Edit:Many things in traditional or rather extremist Islam is backward, to mention some lets say, prohibition of Music, Alchohol, people of opposite s*x interacting, wearing certain clothes in the name of "modesty", polygamy.

All these doesn't make sense or valid in the modern world today what I am saying is practising a religion and being up-to-date and realistic.

  1. Oh....Care to please elaborate on what you think is modernizing??

If you do, then I will surely answer your question to the best of my ability...:-D

  2. I think you should have a pork chop for breakfast

  3. It is not the practice of Islam that needs to be modernized.  It is Muslims who need to wake up and stop practicing Islam in their our own narrow cultural definitions.

However, what God has prohibited, none can make halal (like alcohol, pre-marital s*x, etc.)

Similarly, what God has made halal, none can make haram.

People throughout history have been pretty good at making simple things difficult.  Jews, Christians, Hindus and Muslims have all complicated what was simple for social, politcal or financial benefits.

Do not confuse cultural restrictions with Islam sister.

  4. Unless you beleive Allah didnt know the future when he made the rules,  they are for all eternity. If you believe he didnt you arent a Muslim.

Considering things that are known to be haram like alcohol halal is kufr. There has ALWAYS been and always will be ijtihad when NEW issues arise but changing the religion to suit your whims is kufr.

Our religion is Islam not "Modernism" or "current ideas"

"Have you seen him who takes his low desires for his god? Will you then be a protector over him? " Quran 25:43

  5. ISLAM is already perfect.

    Allah says in the Qur'aan:

"...Alyawma akmaltu lakum deenakum wa atmamtu alaykum ne'matee wa radheetu lakumul islaama deena..."

"...This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion..."

  6. I hope it is modernized

  7. Where would you draw the line between  modern, extremist and traditional ways of following Islam?

You cannot change what is written.

  8. NO NO NO.

Whatever Allah is saying in Quran and Prophet MOHAMMAD pbuh spend his life mentioned in hadith.. We should live according to Quran and hadith. Those who are modern they are not muslims.

Islam has forbidden alcohal, music, and many other things. That a muslim should not do all these haram things.

A woman has to cover herself.

YOu have to do whatever islam says if you deny anything so you will be out of Islam and will not be called muslim.

  9. Salaamz. You refer to your idea of 'extremist' islam as backward.Does one become extremist for not drinking alcohol?I think not sister.Clearly you haven't studied islam as throroughly as you should have before posting this question.Islam is more modern than others (like yourself) would be led to believe. We are given true independance and respect.I assume you also have 'issues' with women who cover themselves(speaking of modesty, and intermingling etc) There are reasons for our beliefs and teachings, and they are all for our good.

I suggest you come back actually knowing what you're talking about.A decent muslim is one who follows the teaching of  the prophet(saw)-something you clearly are against. One more thing, you referring to others who have voiced their  opinion, as  'extremists' could get you into  trouble on this site.Do you even know what an extremist is? wassalaamz

  10. nope, islam is perfect as it is, its modernity that corrupts the people on earth not the religion.

  11. As you see, many people believe their own scholars' interpretations are the real thing. Such additions don't allow room for free thinking, because they put rules about everything there is. They don't let people read and decide for themselves. And when people do that, they excommunicate those people, saying they arenot true believers. How Medieval Christian! How Inquisition Style!

Who do those scholars and their believers think they are, to say whose heart is true, I ask you? God Himself? Isn't giving the religion a bad name a sin?

I have read very wise words from other scholars that are up-to-date, true to the book and realistic. If it weren't for such scholars, my belief that Islam is compatible with changing times would go down the drain.

  12. 7th century stuff should be converted and brought forward.

Infact we should replace it with a new religion, with more appropriate fairy tales if that keeps people happy.

  13. That would be Kufr Akbar.

Here's what Shaykh Muhammad Ramzaan al Haajiree spoke about the levels of people and Islaam and described the types of people concerning the Qur'aan and Sunnah in his explanation of Masaa'il al Jaahiliyyah.

It's quite good in explaining the types of people and what's Kufr from them.

He speaks about those who reject the Qur'aan and Sunnah for something "modern" and how it's kufr like the liberals and modernists and progressives.

Then those who claim Qur'aan only (Quraanites) and how their foundation is from the Khawaarij and what they do is Kufr and he refutes them using the Qur'aan mashaAllaah.

Then those who claim Qur'aan and Sunnah but with different understandings such as "modernization" and "western interpretations" like those people who say we're here to live.

Then those who claim to be upon the Qur'aan and Sunnah and the understanding of the Salaf as Saalih (first 3 generations of Islaam) but they mix with the Rawaafidh and the Soofees and join and unite with them and they are not in reality following the Salaf as Saalih.

Then the people upon the Haqq are those who take the Qur'aan and Sunnah upon the understanding of the Salaf as Saalih.

  14. if by modernized you mean dragged kicking and screaming into the 14th century..........

  15. to what extent??? Muslim girls wearing hijab in an immodest way??

No of course not, but we can try and fit islam into today's society, "leave that which is unlawful".

and when u say "modernized", the word will actually turn to "westernised".

edit : ok listen look what u just wrote, "All these doesn't make sense or valid in the modern world today what I am saying is practising a religion and being up-to-date and realistic."

Being up-to-date in what???  Islam has been completed, why do we need to change the rules just to fit into the "modern" (*coughs* western) society??

  16. What are you talking about Islam is already Modernized.

  17. Up-to-date???

    Realistic???

So what's your idea of realistic? Interacting with opposite s*x and alcohol?

    Get a life!

  18. the koran should be taught to all people. without the knowledge of abrogation and predestination the koran can't be understood.

  19. It is being modernized now and yes, I think that is a good thing. It won't happen all at once. But, it is already happening "one Muslim at a time". So, don't worry.

  20. NEVER..islam will always be what it is..u either practice the religion the right way or u dont..Quran and sunnah is what its about..not following our nafs and modernising it..islam is a complete way of life..it is perfect..there is nothing to modernise.

  21. Islam does not need modernisation, it is perfect as it is.

  22. no,because islam, with its teachings, whether in quran or sunnah, has been made for all times.

of course we should use the progress in technology in our lives, but not to change our teachings, but to help us keeping it,like the sewak/toothbrush....etc.

a true muslim should believe that Islam is perfect the way it is,the way Allah sent it,anything man-made is spoiling it,and it would turn into a pick-and-match religion, just look at christianity and Judaism.

  24. Why would you need to change something that is already perfect?Islam doesn't need to be modernized.

  25. nope that's innovating. Islam was founded as a religion way ahead of its time, stopping all that is evil and promoting all that is good. if doing things that are haram, is modern to you, it just means that you would rather follow the crowd and do things that they are doing. You would rather become a slave of your desires, rather than deprive yourself from fulfilling them for gods sake. ITs not without sacrifice that one will make it to jannah, jannah is indeed a great reward for those of great character and moral beauty.

  26. Your Q should be modified to: "Should we live like animals; walk half naked; and commit adultery instead of marriage"?

Islam is the real moder civilization. It teaches us to control our desires and unload it in a correct legal way. There is a great great difference between virgin Mary in her Hijab and Morals and a Westernized woman walking with her panties exposed.

Great difference between the modest Madame Curie, and a female monkey rubbing between her hips and exposing her organs all the time.

It is better to marry two wives than to marry one and let one go for prostitution.

  27. Absolutely not, why would you want to change your religion to fit your desire?

Islam is already perfect. It doesn't need "modernization"

  28. Sweetie, to correct your second statement. The easterners westernized too. When Amercia invaded Japan they began wearing western clothing, and changed from swords to modern Arms and the samurai were outlawed pretty much. So east has nothing to do with west. Todays standards of modernization has to do with the west, Chinese people don't wear their traditional clothing any longer, instead they wear western clothes. Learn something sweetie. And besides why are you always bashing on Islam? Are you traumatized or something? Did you maybe had a crush on a Muslim and he rejected you? how does Islam bother you if you are not muslim? let them be, and be yourself.

  29. The actions of Muslims, will never alter what Islam essentially is.  Being a revert, the reason why I was called to Islam is because it was different and I felt that it was not of this world - Allah created this religion for us.  Don't you think that by chopping and changing it to our personal taste, and making it worldly, will make Islam like every other religion?

I don't mind in one being up-to-date, but I also believe that doing that means sacrificing being true to your deen - and if that is the case, then its really not worth it sister.

    Salam

  30. No, all the stuff you mentioned is forbidden for a reason.  I'm a convert and have experience with alcohol, dressing in western clothes, interacting with people of the opposite s*x.  None of it is deadly, but it disrupts inner peace.

Islam is submission to peace.  The moderate segregation of the sexes is there because there is more harmony between people of the same s*x when the sexes are split like that.  you obviously like to make other women jealous by flaunting yourself, but I like to cover up as a courtesy to other women.

And not covering is more primitive.  Covering is civilized because it temporarily hides the animal nature.

  31. Sis, i do agree with you partly. But some of  the things you mention that you think need to be modernized are controversial topics already.

Like prohibition of music, the need to wear hijab, complete segregation of sexes (which was not the case in the time of our prophet and directly after his time). These are all topics you can find different opinions about.

Also some Sharia like the killing of apostates or the killing of married adulterers are highly controversial and do not find any ground in the Quran.

So i do agree we can at least debate over this issues and reevaluate them.

Things like no alcohol, no pork, polygamy in times of war when there are a lot of women who will not be able to get married otherwise are things that are laid down in the Quran and i think all have wisdom.

Will this ever happen? I do not know. I think a country like Turkey who is in the process of going through all hadith again and are looking which hadiths need to be cut is a great start. Unfortunately most fellow Muslims and other countries do not agree..... so i doubt if it is ever going to happen!
