  1. Hopefully if UNESCO gets control of the site they will be able to straighten things out, but from the articles in TIME it looks like there has been a lot of deterioration.

  2. The French ministry of Culture announced several measures to fight the black spots that have appeared in the prehistoric grotto of Lascaux, in the southwest of France. The spots will be object of a “located treatment” and no type of human activity will be allowed inside the grotto during a period of three months, according to the ministry. The cave was white of an attack of white mould in the 2001 and 2002 and now are victim of the development of black spots, caused by fungi. Its presence must “to multiple factors supposedly”, like the “climatic change, that has altered the internal balance” of the site, according to the president of the committee, Marc Gauthier. The grotto is closed from 1963 due to the deep modifications of its environment brought about by the affluence of visitors from 1948, when it was  to the tourists. At that time, the cave paintings began to be affected by microorganisms and calcareous sediments as a result of the great amount of visitors who received every day.
