Katana is a sword. Not a swords are double-edged. Are you going to call a scimitar a big knife?

  1. No, because it's not a sword.  It's a big knife.  Swords are considered to be two-edged.  So katanas are technically knives.  But they're very big knives, that have been studied for generations by crazy Japanese people who like to be efficient about things, especially cutting other people.  So yeah, it's a pretty efficient knife.  Sword, no.

  2. depends on the situation

but I do love them :0

  3. It isn't the sword that's effective, it's the master.

    Durh

  4. Except for it's extreme hardness and the limited defensive capability that causes (you can't parry a forceful blow with one--you must avoid it), it is the best close-quarters weapon out there.  The sharpness and lightness of the katana make it easily the most efficient offensive melee weapon.  I might want two swords though, I think I'd like something closer to a rapier for defense and armor penetration.

For real-life home protection, the katana would be an ideal weapon--less chance of an accident than firearms, while being the only sword I'd trust against an intruder's firearm.  (That would be an incredible mess though--I think I'd have to move!)

  5. Depends on the user.  In the Philippines we have 'Kris' and it's really great and so efficient ! =)
