  1. YES ANS SOME SAY THAT IT IS THE PLANTET THAT SMASKED INTO EARTH FORMING THE MOON, AND IT MIGHT HAVE HAD LIFE ON IT

  2. It would have been a very small planet indeed, no bigger than about the size of Mongolia.

  3. yes with pieces scatterd all over the solar system like phoebe, even tritan most of the mass fell to jupiter

  4. yes I agree with the 1st poster, it is not very much material, maybe the size of our moon of if it all came together

  5. Nope.  There's not enough stuff there to make a planet.

Yup.  Ceres is a planet.  Or at least it was, from 1800 to 1850.  Then it got reclassified as a Minor Planet - which like "Dwarf Planet" sounds alot like a planet, confusing the public with this "is a Minor Planet a planet or not?" sort of stuff.

The current scientific consensus is no.  That is, the gravity of Jupiter prevented any planet from forming in that region.  Now, in the early solar system, you could easily have had a huge planet form there, which was then kicked out of the solar system altogether by Jupiter's gravity.  And there'd be no evidence of just an object now.  But without evidence, there's nothing for a scientist to believe in.

  6. That's very possible, it would have probably be smaller though.

  7. No.  It is generally believed that the tidal interference of Jupiter caused two things to happen to the asteroid belt.  First of all, Jupiter's large gravity may have pulled much of the accretion material from that region as the solar system was forming.  Secondly, Jupiter's tidal force on the belt keeps the sparsely spaced objects from ever being able to gather together.

The asteroid belt was destined to be nothing more than a widely scattered ring of rocks.  Now, if Jupiter had not been so massive or if it had been much farther out, there might have been a nice planet there.
