Question:

Do you believe that us, humans, evolved from Apes and Monkeys?

I am wondering because some say we have evolved from them. On the other hand, people say we were not evolved from them.

Is evolution just a theory, or could it be true?

  1. there is very little evidence to imply that we evolved from apes.

people always try to make scientific explanations for things.

  2. who knows and who cares were we came from........we here now cant we all just be happy with it!!!!!

  3. It quite possibly could be true. Scientists are constantly looking for the missing link that could connect australopithecus to modern day homo sapiens.

As of yet, this idea is just a theory like the Big Bang.

  4. I'm no monkey!

  5. I  came from Adam & Eve! Some of you might have come from monkeys, (at least you act like it)

But not me, God created my ancestors... how about you monkey descendents? Where did monkeys come from?

And, If man evolved from monkeys as the monkey improved its hereditary traits over the ages, why are there still monkeys around today? Just a thought..Ta Ta

  6. I believe, based on fossil and genetic evidence, that extant apes and humans share a common ape-like ancestor. We share an ancestor with monkeys, but, that ancestor is not as recent (apes are more closely related to us than monkeys).  However, I do not believe we evolved from currently living species of apes or monkeys, and NO evolutionary biologist, paleoanthropologist, or any other advocate or scholar of evolutionary theory will tell you otherwise. That is a common misconception about human evolution held by people who don't understand it, and usually are trying to argue against it.

And yes, evolution is "just" a theory. So is EVERYTHING else held "true" by the scientific community. In science, NOTHING is ever proven- heliocentricity, gravity, etc. It is ALL "just" theories. When a scientist talks about a theory, he or she is talking about a hypothesis that has A LOT of evidence to suppport it, and is regarded as fact by scientists.

  7. No and, no one ever said that. We did, however, evolve along the same lines as Chimpanzees. We have one less genetic marker in our make-up. We have 47, 23 from each parent, the Chimp has 47.

  8. There are Some people who say that we in fact Evolved from A form of 3 toed Sloth.

Its I havent done much research on it but its in a really good book called "everything you think you know is wrong"

    its an interesting Idea.

  9. No.  Nor did we 'evolve' from the imaginary "common ancestor", that the believers in the 'faith' of evolution, have conjured up in an attempt to make evolution 'fit'.

Out of the mountains of fossil samples available, there's absolutely NONE that can, 'unequivocally' prove that evolution is a 'FACT'.  The links between the spices are just not there and, as for the "common ancestor", it really is a figment of evolutionist's imagination.  There is not one shred of evidence of it.  They can't even give it a name, let alone describe what kind of creature it was supposed to be.

It seems to me, that for evolutionists, it's a case of, if creationism is so flawed (which it is), and there's nothing better to believe in, you'd better believe anything that seems plausible, whether or not it's right or wrong, and it 'IS' WRONG until it is PROVEN, WITHOUT A SHADOW OF DOUBT, to be "RIGHT".

  10. There was something on the tv once that said we evolved from fish, but evolving from apes and monkeys seems more possible.

  11. To whoever said that the majority is right, think again. If everyone is jumping off a cliff, would you?

  12. Short form: Humans and apes evolved from a common ancestor; about 8 million years ago. blood type, DNA and body structure all show common origin.

Theory in science means "explanation." Example: Has been raining all week. You lookout the window and see it's still raining. Friend comes into the room. They are wearing wet rain gear. Water is pooling at their feet. The person remarks how wet it is outside.

Your theory is that the person has been outside in the rain. Then someone in the back row cries out "IT'S ONLY A THEORY!!!!!!!!!" and demands you prove it.

Not very logical is it? Sure you can explain your reasoning but how would you answer "Maybe there was a fire sprinkler that just went off in the hallway." No, it doesn't make any sense. Problem is evolutionary theory has been repeatedly demonstrated. It's lasted 150 years and no basic tenet of the theory has been disproved.

Humans did not evolve from modern apes, but humans and modern apes shared a common ancestor, a species that no longer exists. Because we share a recent common ancestor with chimpanzees and gorillas, we have many anatomical, genetic, biochemical, and even behavioral similarities with these African great apes. We are less similar to the Asian apes--orangutans and gibbons--and even less similar to monkeys, because we share common ancestors with these groups in the more distant past.

Evolution is a branching or splitting process in which populations split off from one another and gradually become different. As the two groups become isolated from each other, they stop sharing genes, and eventually genetic differences increase until members of the groups can no longer interbreed. At this point, they have become separate species. Through time, these two species might give rise to new species, and so on through millennia. "

    From Straight Dope:

Why isn't this argument used against evolution? Well, it is--it's just used incorrectly. Let's start with a quote from the recently re-released publication, Science and Creationism: A View from the National Academy of Sciences (Second Edition).   In the section on "Human Evolution," the publication notes, "today there is no significant scientific doubt about the close evolutionary relationships among all primates, including humans."

Evolution doesn't work as a simple find-and-replace function. Have you ever seen the evolutionary "tree" diagrams in a science book?  Those trees show how different species branch off and go in different evolutionary directions. That doesn't necessarily mean everything else dies. As the National Academy of Sciences document notes, archaeological finds "reveal a well-branched tree, parts of which trace a general evolutionary sequence leading from ape-like forms to modern humans."

The NAS publication actually answers your question directly in its Appendix of Frequently Asked Questions. It says:

"Humans did not evolve from modern apes, but humans and modern apes shared a common ancestor, a species that no longer exists. Because we share a recent common ancestor with chimpanzees and gorillas, we have many anatomical, genetic, biochemical, and even behavioral similarities with these African great apes. We are less similar to the Asian apes orangutans and gibbons and even less similar to monkeys, because we share common ancestors with these groups in the more distant past.

"Evolution is a branching or splitting process in which populations split off from one another and gradually become different. As the two groups become isolated from each other, they stop sharing genes, and eventually genetic differences increase until members of the groups can no longer interbreed. At this point, they have become separate species. Through time, these two species might give rise to new species, and so on through millennia."

In other words, the "ape-like" animals that eventually gave rise to humans split up into several branches, all of which evolved in different directions. Some of those lines became become extinct; others survived. One of the surviving groups includes you and me (and in theory P.E. teachers, although one wonders). Other survivors include the various species of monkeys and apes we find today.

So, John, I've convinced you, right? Attaboy--always nice to have another ally in the fight against ignorance. Incidentally, you can find the NAS publication on the web at http://books.nap.edu/html/creationism/. Lots of good info in there!

Not good enough? OK we'll reveal the real truth of how humans came to be:

After the Frost Giants emerged from the ice, Buri appeared. He beget Bor. Bor and Bestla had three sons: Odin was the first, Vili the second, and Vé the third.

While walking along the sea shore the sons of Bor found two trees, and from them they created a man and a woman.

Odin gave the man and the woman spirit and life. Vili gave them understanding and the power of movement. Vé gave them clothing and names. The man was named Ask [Ash] and the woman Embla [Elm?]. From Ask and Embla have sprung the races of men who lived in Midgard.

    Now you disprove that!

  13. First of all, the theory doesn't say we evolved from Apes and Monkeys. It says we (humans) and Apes had the same ancestors and evolution created humans and apes. So the answer to your first question is NOOOOOO. Humans, Apes and monkeys evolved form the same ancestor.

Evolution is just a theory, but it explains almost everything that we find scientifically (archeology, enzyme similarity b/n different species, . . . ). And in science a theory that can explain everything is acceptable.

Religion is another theory (b/c we can't prove it to be right) that we accept with faith. It gives life  meaning and purpose. But I think the evolution theory lacks this meaning and purpose in life.

So in the end it all comes to you, if you think scientific evidence is good enough for you to justify things, then you will like the evolution theory. But if you think we have a purpose in life, there are some things we can't explain, we have a creator that sees and watches our every moves recording our goods and bads, then religion is a good place for you. Almost 90% of the world population have some kind of religion, this shows you what is probably right.

  14. actually I think that we evolve from the sea

look at it this way we develop in water for 9 month we can not live with out water we need the water for with out it we will die

  15. You are an ape. Today's apes and you are cousins who share a common ancestor. Evolution, the change in allele frequency over time in a population of organisms, is fact. The theory of evolution by natural selection explains this fact. Go here and start getting the truth.

  16. Evolution is not "just a theory"; it is a proven fact.  Humans and apes descended from a common ancestor, long since extinct.  Even without the proof, there is not the slightest doubt about the truth of evolution in the mind of anyone who actually knows something about the subject; see:

  17. If something is proved to be true then science will go out of it's way to make it untrue. It has all got to do with earnings.

  18. no. if Apes and Monkeys evolved to become human, it would have annihilated the former species, once the  human factor became the rule.  i still see monkeys and apes on t.v. don't you? it is just a theory, how could it be true, there are so many other theory's from other learned men.  who is wise enough to decide?

  19. Due to the fact that humans are the most destructive animals on Earth, saying we evolved from apes and monkeys is an insult to the apes and the monkeys!!!
