  1. I think it is a combination.

More adults are obese than ever before. These adults have children. Children learn from watching their parents. These children then learn unhealthy eating/exercise habits then they too become obese. This is not always the case, there are children who are obese and their parents are not and vice versa parents who are obese and children who are not. Plus there are so many form of indoor entertainment (tv, video games, computers, etc.) if a parent does not monitor and set limits and insist on physical activity that can lead to childhood obesity.

We know that type 2 diabetes is caused by lack of activity and poor diet. Whereas type 1 is caused by genetics. There is also the newer term out there of type 3 diabetes, which is a combination of both type 1 and 2 which is causing treatment problems because treatment for one type causes a problem in the second type.

My conclusion is that we are seeing more obesity in kids because of environmental factors. Because the obesity rates among kids are higher than ever before, we are seeing more type 2 diabetes in kids than ever before.

It is amazing how much lifestyle choices affect our health.

  2. Probably the preservatives, flavor enhancers, artificial flavors and colors, hydrogenated oils, and mostly high fructose corn syrup in EVERYTHING WE BUY.

  3. It's because they're obese, eating diets high in saturated fat and refined carbohydrates, and inactive.

  4. It's the caloric intake, plain and simple, and the wrong type of sugar (fructose, from all the corn-syrup they put into everything).
