  1. Shouldn't this be welcomed.

If every scientist agreed with the current status quo then the world would still be flat. That fact that people are willing to debate this issue or look at the subject in a different way will only increase knowledge and hopefully lead to a better understanding of what is going on.

Whether there take a one sided point or not is irrelevant. Most information is extremely reductionist and with out input from these types of studies is just as invalid.

  2. among the millions of people who consider themselves to be scientists, it would not be difficult, with enough resources, such as the oil industry has, to find 400 scientists that will sign everything, from a challenge to the global warming theory, to a theory that supports creation.

And with a lot of political and economic interests behind every attempt to protect the oil, coal and auto industry, there will be many avenues to allow those bought out scientists to have a wide access to the public.

  3. you are not in touch with reality mate. I think that you think you are but you have no idea what you are talking about. why dont you leave it to the experts?

  4. 400 scientists... against THOUSANDS of scientists that say otherwise. AND... the vast majority of these "scientists" are NOT experts on climate change, or are funded by oil companies. Newsweek already addressed this sad excuse for a "scientific" argument against global warming last summer. These 400 "scientists" are a joke.

Unfortunately, they are a well-funded joke...

  5. Over the years we have been bombarded with the notion that skeptics are akin to flat earth believers, and people who "believe the moon landing was actually staged in a movie lot in Arizona.".  Well this list of 400 proves that this is A BIG LIE.  "The evidence is overwhelming" is nothing but a pure piece of propaganda design to manipulate the public into supporting their view.  If all of the experts agree, then you should also agree, and you do not have to question the science.

  6. millions of people also believed the earth was flat until one man proved them wrong.

i am surprised more scientist didnt challenge it, because they should. If this is an actual concern, then it shouldnt be made out to be a popularity contest.

EDIT: So if a scientist has an opposing belief, he/she is apparently being paid off? Wow, way to not jump to rational conclusions

  7. It's not a Senate report.  It's a press release from Senator Inhofe's political staff, and it's nonsense.

For example one of the "400" listings is based SOLELY on a letter to the editor from a "chemist" spouting long discarded theories.  Many others list scientists who actually agree that global warming is real, and mostly caused by us, but disagree on some minor detail.

Just a bunch of c**p.  It's really a sign of how desperate the deniers have become, as the mounting scientific evidence makes their position ridiculous.

    "climate science from climate scientists"

  8. BS. No legitimate scientist is disputing global warming--or its human origins.

What the so-called "skeptics" do not understand is that ther eis no debate. The facts have been proven. Their attempts to discredit them are doomed to failure.  Facts are facts--and cannot change.  They are not matters  of opinion.

  9. I'd Imagine there are a heck of a lot more than 400.  Right now it is all the rage in the scientific communities to push the AGW issue so it is dangerous for scientists that believe otherwise to speak out.  There is the big public poo pooing of those that don't believe. some have even received death threats.  Some people on here even make outrageous claims that 99% of scientists are onboard with this issue. Don'tbelieve it.  If the anti-AGW scientists speak out they would be burned at the stake quicker than a heritic during the inquisition.

  10. Flip through the list… Here it is in alphabetical order:

Four hundred people are a lot, but just a drop in the bucket when considering the total number of scientists with a relevant history in climate research.  For example, the AGU is one organization that has over 50, 000 members[1], the majority of whom hold a Ph.D. in Earth science.

Many of the people on Inhofe’s list do not dispute the consensus on anthropogenic (man-made) global warming, and many of them are not experts in the field of climatology (meaning that they have not published anything, in peer-reviewed journals, on the subject of climatology within the past few years).

Edit:  You shouldn’t get you science information from a popular magazine (Newsweek) if there are better sources available.

The article “The Truth About Denial” is not about the science, but about the quality of arguments.
