I personally believe as an unelected individual who holds the power to completely dissolve our political system it is too much. I mean when considering the 1975 constitutional crisis when he dismissed the prime minister, the reserve powers which he holds can be considered too much. How ever what other solutions are there that can be offered? What is you're opinion on the matter and the reasons for this belief

  1. yes

  2. A very good point, and also a very good topic .  It seems

not enough Australians give weight to such a situation

that exists in our very mist .  I often wonder when Australia

will consider itself totally autonomous , and totally shed it's

British apron strings !   We probably need a Governor General

like a needle in  a haystack (for want of a better terminology) :

Yet he serves an old Historical post , that quite a few enjoy

looking back and now exept as part of our politics.

Your valid point is that he holds the balance of the power in our

country to deject our Prime Minister in this instance it is totally

wrong....and nothing can be said to make this ring right.

  3. I don't know about the Governor General, but I believe that every politician in every country throughout the world holds too much power.

Is there any politician anywhere with integrity?    Who doesn't have self-serving interests and doesn't have cronies who benefit from his power, at the expense of the taxpayers?

It appears that unelected officials are not a good idea in any system, be they Governor General or US Supreme Court Justices.    The people of any country should be the ones to select whoever governs them, and to vote them out of office when they fail to govern fairly and equitably.

  4. i believe in the monarchy , if he/she hold too much power just reform it ; governor-general is a representative of the Australian monarch

  5. Any form of governor in the world holds to much power.

  6. GG holds very little power except to perroge parliament. GG has to little power to resolve a supply impasse. Parliament needs pass appropriation bills for the govt to function. The constitution is quiet clear on this point the only time GG can appropriate without parliament's approval was the case for the holding of the first election of parliament for the Commonwealth of Australia. Fraser lead a short lived govt and in the end lost to Hawk.

  7. no it is great

what the GG is took the problem back to the people

what you are forgetting is that the people of Australia did not want whitlam they thought what he did was wrong

Whitlam was about to destroy the Westminster system of government he was going to go around supply, this would lead to executive government and destroy parliamentary democracy

it is never ever wrong to take the government back to the judgment of the people
