  1. Without welfare you'd have to spend more money on preventing crime, prosecuting criminals, and locking people up. People won't just accept starvation.

Interestingly America gives much less welfare to its poor than any other leading industrialised nation. It has a higher rate of people living in poverty, a higher crime rate, a higher murder rate, and a higher rate of people incarcerated in prison. Scandinavian counties on the other hand have the greatest levels of welfare, the least number of people living in poverty, the greatest social mobility, and very low crime rates. It's not a direct correlation because lots of very poor people don't commit crimes, but in general, the more selfish and brutal your society, and the more poverty, the more crime you get.

The biofuels scandal is just the most recent example of how governments and corporations make people poor. 30 million people worldwide have just been added to the numbers of those living in food poverty because governments and corporations have promoted crops grown for fuel rather than food. According to the World Bank this decision accounts for 75% of the food price increases. Society creates poverty, it distributes wealth, so we do have a responsibility towards the poor. How many American jobs have been outsourced in the last decade? By the way, Jesus was homeless right? The poor are not trash, dirty scum, they are just like you without a job.

Corporate welfare combined with multimillion dollar CEO pay is a scandal. It happens because the political system is corrupt. Still it's easier to beat up on the poor than the rich, especially if you're a rich wanna be too.

  2. compare apples to apples......  Halliburton  works .They don't sit back and receive checks   for sitting on their butts.....  oooh kay mabe some do

  3. The question should be: why is it okay for the government to distribute welfare to the unwilling and unmotivated to work and also say it's okay to take money from the first-generation wealthy (whom are amongst some of the brightest and most innovative people in America) and distribute it to those same unwilling people and those who don't work as hard as the wealthy?

"Oh, those millionaires don't know what it's like to be broke and poor, they have no idea how little we have.  They should be so lucky because they don't have a clue."

Oh yes they do.  You know how most of them became millionaires?  They started from just about as low or even less than the same poor people today that are complaining.  They just made a choice to work, save and be smart with money (among other things).  It all comes down to choices.  You can't tell me that every single "poor" person isn't capable of taking their own initiative and being successful.

These may be strong opinions, but with exception to the physically challenged or very ill, I can't justify taking money away from those who have earned it and distributing it to those who didn't.

  4. We shouldn't be paying $800 for a hammer NOR should we be paying a check to a person who is perfectly capable of working, period.

Get up off your duff and pull your own weight instead of looking towards others to pay your way, its different if you physically can not work but we all know we have tons who could be and should be working instead of abusing taxpayers.

  5. at least with the $800 hammer the government has a usable tool, something of value...something that can be used for a productive end.

a person receiving welfare is a liability...historically, people receiving welfare payments become more and more addicted to it so there dependency on the government grows and grows....welfare, housing, food stamps, WIC, Section 8 housing....Welfare has not solved the poverty problem so why do we continue am expensive, unproductive program....?

  6. Not as long as there are Democrats.

About that $800 hammer. Congress approved the spending. No I don't approve of an $800 hammer but then I don't believe in permenant welfare for anyone except the MOST needy, the physically disabled either.

  7. i know that 53% of collected taxes goes to entitlement programs.

  8. I dont mind money being paid to Halliburton....it benefits me.

I dont mind paying taxes because if they would be used for the roads and for the police and military men and women who protect me.

What I have a problem with is the couple down the street. They keep poping out babies and letting them run all around the neighborhood all dirty and nasty. The lady probably has never lifted her finger in her life (except to fill out the welfare papers) and her boyfriend is always working on his car and is on disability because he got shot in a bad drug deal.

They are wearing designer clothes and have a brand new Lincoln Navigator.

And you cant fire back that this is not the way the majority are.

Come to Michigan and you will change your mind. Anyone who has common sense would know that this is wrong.

    EDIT:

Guerrill~why is my responsibility to feed those people who wont go work?

Its not and that is what private organization is for.

I have a friend who works over 40 hours a week and has a 12 year old son. One job that pays 9.50 an hour. She has to be at work every night. She hardly gets any breaks.

    Why do I admire her?

Because she gets off her butt everyday and does it over and over again. And does it without a drop of public assistance.

Oh and dont throw the 'well some people just cant work because they are disabled'

She is recovering from Lupus and has a serious back and feet problems.

Difference between welfare moochers and her....She has morals

  9. The common thread between both corporate welfare and welfare for the poor is that the money was first confiscated from tax payers.  It was stolen.

To answer your question, I don't get to keep my money if it is stolen from me (taxed) regardless of to whom it is given.  I'm all for helping the poor, and I have no problem with corporate owners making a nice profit if everyone has the choice whether to purchase their product.  But in no case do I condone theft even when it is claimed for noble purposes.

The insidious thing about the whole scam is that people proudly brag about the welfare to the poor while the corporate welfare is not widely considered.  In truth, I believe that the benefits to the wealthy far out-weigh the benefits that the poor receive.  If you want to help the poor, you have to understand first that unscrupulous, ambitious people will seize upon institutions of theft to enrich themselves.  I'm a firm believer that the poor would be better off without the programs claimed to be helping them because the vast privilege given to the elite parasites would be gone.

  10. No. I realize it's not social welfare programs that are costing us 3 billion dollars a week in a foreign country.

I can't believe people are trying to justify the Halliburton thievery...  Who's drinking the Kool Aid NOW!?

  11. why should i give my hard earned money to people who haven't earned it? why can't i choose what to do with my money? Everybody in this country has a choice, you can choose to get an education, you can choose to stay home and make a 5 babies, if you choose not to work you should not get rewarded for it, i do not come from money, my father is a retired NYC fireman, my mom a housewife, i have 5 brothers and sisters, i was taught to work hard and i would be rewarded, not that i should work hard to pay for others to live, i don't mind helping out the elderly and the handicapped but NOT those who are able to work!

  12. How I feel about people being on welfare; If you can walk, talk and perform everyday tasks,You can work..I am sick in tired of seeing all these people living in housing or collecting off welfare when they are healthy enough to work.It sickens me!!

I can see for those who can not work if they are on their deathbed. My own mother worked up until the time she passed away, and she had stage IV ovarian cancer!

If you are not working..Get off your high horse and start looking and stop spunging off the system

Edit: This is a reason why the american economy is the way it is, spending wasteless dolllars on a tool that you can buy out of your pocket..
