  1. yes! the engine of your car burn gasoline to produce power.  the air conditioner in order to remove heat from the inside of the auto has to "pump" the heat out through the air conditioner. the air has a compressor mounted on the engine and it's turned by a fan belt. the engine has to exert extra energy to turn this compressor.THE ONLY WAY FOR AN ENGINE TO PRODUCE MORE POWER IS TO BURN MORE GAS.

                               "BRILLIANT"!!!!!

  2. yes, but you burn even more with the windows open.

  3. Below 40 mph, yes. Above that, it's better to use the AC.

I never use my AC...because I don't have one. When I had a car with an AC, I never used it anyway, because I enjoy the nice, fresh breeze better than AC air.

  4. Sitting in traffic yes, over 25 or so a/c saves as there is no drag from the windows being open.

  5. Yes.

The AC compressor uses some of the power from your engine, so to go a given speed, more gas is required when the AC is on.

There may or may not be much drag from driving with the windows open - it depends upon the design of the car.
