  1. Well, where I live, you cannot buy bagged horse feed. (I live in a developing country and there isnt even a tack shop here!! ergh)

So we can buy barley, oats, pulp, by the kilo...

So we buy cotton pulp and crushed barley and I feed that to my colt, along with his chaff.

Instead of just pouring from a bag and using a feed mixer, I get mucky and mix the whole lot together with my hands along with a nice cupful of corn oil! I actually love the smell of my hands after mixing it, I could eat it myself if my husband wasnt around!! Lol

p.s. you are lucky you can grow it yourself!

    have a nice day!

  2. My old barn use to buy oats by the ton and crimp them on site. It was cheaper than buying from the store but didn't have the hassel of actually growing them (and we didn't have the space to grow). It is impossible to grow hay here so everyone has to buy it from somewhere else. My new barn buys sweet feed from the store. I liked how the horses looked on the oats better but the sweet feed works for my TB. My older QH has some senior feed but I can't remember the name. Its also from the store.

  3. Yes,I grow my own.I find it more fun and I actually know whats going into my horses mouths!

  4. We grow our own grain and hay, but buy supplementary pellets.  We don't need very much hay, about 3-4 acres of alfalfa gets our 5 through the winter just fine (we let them graze about 12 hours a day, so we only use about 1 square bale a day during the summer and 2-3 per day during the winter).  With hay prices the way they are, we might start growing more and selling it to a nearby stable.

  5. We buy a complete feed from the local mills. We do not have enough selenium in or grazing areas here so its better to be safe then sorry.

  6. nah we buy ours from the feed store

  7. We grow our own hay, but buy feed from stores.  We don't use enough to make it worth it to make it ourselves.

  8. buy it but we buy directly from teh manufacturer not at feed stores so we tell them exactly what we need/want in it.  we have several feeds that are specifically designed for the different ages

  9. we buy ours but it is getting so expensive we might just grow our own. that is what we do with hay because it is 5 dollars here so we just cut it before winter and use it then and just feed them grain in the summer cuz i dont like my horses to gain too much weight

  10. No. I buy the feed for my horses. one of them is a diabetic so she needs a certain type. but for the other ones we still buy it.

  11. I feed Seminole Gold Chance 10 and Seminole Ultra Bloom and my horse looks like a million dollars.
