In Wisconsin we call it a bubbler, but I haven't heard it called that anywhere else.

  1. I base the name on the liquid that is dispensed from it. If indeed water is emitted from the fixture, it should be a water fountain. If a bottle is placed on it, I call it water cooler. If the valve is attached to a sink, or lavatory, I refer to it as a faucet water. If beer, (or other alcohol ) it is a tap.

I have heard the terminology "bubbler" during a visit to family several years ago, but haven't heard it since. I don't know if this helps or not, but different parts of the country, the same item might have several different names.

  2. Fountain...

  3. Yeah, I grew up in Sheboygan.  We also called sloppy joes "hot tamales" there.  It makes no sense!   I've had to make myself call bubblers "water fountains", just so people know what I'm talking about.

  4. I grew up in OK calling it a water fountain.
