  1. I care, but what can we really do about it?  I believe charity starts at home.  There are so many people in our own backyards that need help.  We seem to ignore them to send food and money overseas.  It just doesn't make sense.

I also heard on a news story that the food and money that is shipped to places like Africa rarely gets to the people that need it.  The government intercepts it and it doesn't go to the starving people.

  2. It is true that there are lots of struggling Americans. It's also true that a lot of US aid never reaches the people it's meant for. However, I question how many Americans are starving. There are something like 30,000 children worldwide starving TO DEATH daily. Unbelievable numbers, but true, so I think this whole myth that Americans are starving needs to be revisited. We have poverty in America. We have social problems in America. We need to fix a whole lot. But there are not children starving to death unless they are victims of abuse and that's a whole other story.

  3. I won't join the debate from the starving American point of view. I want to focus on the African question of hunger and starvation. Let me put it in a humanitarian way. As one who has spent nearly four years living and working in Africa I can tell you things are very bleek there on a daily basis. But when will people in starving countries come to terms with their situation and stop making babies they know they can't feed! Who is to ultimately blame for their uncontroled sexual urges which produce these millions of death prone infants......While I know this answer won't get any thums up votes because it lacks the do good, pat on the back for the generous American mentality, it's at least honest and a part of the problem most don't want to address.

  4. I have the same viewpoint as you. There are so many people living on the streets here, and starving, and we always ignore our priorities over here.

  5. I believe that we should give them food, meds AND birth control!!!!!!!!

  6. yes its messed up that some people cant afford to eat yet others can afford to feed millions.

  7. The sad fact is that Americans who have been proven to be some of the most generous people in the world have sent tons and tons and tons of food to countries that the govenment will not let them deliver so it rots.

In as much and countries in Europe,  Canada  and america try, if you can't get past the corrupt and controlling government, no food will get thru and innocent people die.

Be knowledgeable about where you donate your time and money and make sure it really is effective.  There are ways to check these things out on the web.  Christian Children's fund has and excellent reputation of getting the most $$ to the child and family than many other organizations who are a bit top heavy in management.  Find out how much of your dollar is making things happen.  Is it 40 cents or 85 cents per dollar.

Unlike Darfore the USA poor are not as bad off as they are and are not poor due to war and pestolence or the government killing their livestock or burning their home.  They are poor for different reasons so the battle is one in their heart and soul.  Maybe the parents live lives filled with bad choices or no education so the kids suffer too.  That needs fixing too.  How do you help someone stop a cycle of poverty choices who maybe doesn't want to?

  8. bad grammar. you sound like you have no idea about the world.

and lets face it, there arent any kids in america that die from starvation. just call 911 and they will help you out!
