1. Carbon dioxide traps heat in the atmosphere, keeping the planet warm.

2. Additional carbon dioxide traps more heat.

3. Possible effects of additional heat in the atmosphere include: rising sea level due to melting polar icecaps, more severe storms due to warmer ocean surface tempartures, droughts due to increased evaporation of moisture from the soil.

4. Carbon-based fuels emit carbon dioxide when burned.

5. Human beings use carbon-based fuels.

  1. No, but the earth is more complicated than a simple, carbon gases are being released, and never do anything. Also, cows cause more greenhouse gasses than all of the cars we drive combined. Furthermore the earth releases carbon all of the time.  By the way, using your style I could make this argument:

    1. Heat warms up the earth

    2. people produce heat off of their bodies.

    3. That he may be trapped in the atmosphere

    4. The heat of humans is causing global warming, so we should kill them to end global warming.

  2. Nope, those are all true.  The only way to deny that humans are causing the planet to warm is to deny basic fundamental physics such as this.

  3. no. but if someone payed me enough i would say anything.

  4. Duh.

    Climate change still isn't a man-made monster.

  5. 1.Correct, but it is a minor one.

    2. It is not a linear equation.

    3. IF agw is true the rise will be small.  IPCC says two feet, nothing to worry about.  Over the past 100 years severe storms have lessened.

    4.   Correct

    5. Correct

You have to understand, few skeptics are disputing that co2 is  greenhouse gas, but it is a minor one.  What proponents of AGW are saying is that this minor increase in greenhouse gases will cause an amplification of temperatures.  That is were our dispute is.

I would like to remind you the AGW hypothesis.  The increase in co2 levels will cause a major rise in temperatures AND that these temperatures will be catastrophic.

  6. Do you challenge this fact:  Spitting in the ocean causes sea levels to rise.

You are altering one parameter of a system containing scores of interdependent parameters.  At this point, the net effect is pure speculation.

  7. Why should I challenge these?

But, I can not see Carbon dioxide trapping heat nor I can see more Carbon dioxide.

  8. True - but you forgot a couple more relevant statements.

    1) Man as only added 100ppm or just a scant 0.001% co2 into the air.  Too little to effect climate.

    2) Variations in the Sun's output has a greater effect on global temperatures than co2.

  9. Do increased CO2 levels raise the climate's temperature? Difficult to say because CO2 levels were HIGHER at the beginning the industrial revolution. Our coal consumption was 6 million tons per year in the 1830s and CO2 was 440ppm. We are now consuming 6 billion tons of coal and current CO2 levels are 380ppm.

  10. No, I challenge the conclusion that global warming is a bad thing. Considering this planets history of ice ages and the fact I live in north western Canada global warming is a great idea. Today it's -26c add the wind chill and it's-40c the temperatures have been this way for weeks.

So hurry up and turn up the sun because I'm freezing.

  11. All true!

    Don't forget....

    EXTINCTION is FOREVER!
