Do you conserve energy and water?

I always ensure that lights and tv are turned off when not in use. I hv taught my kids to do this too and also taught them to use the necessary amount of water and not waste unnessarily. It annoys me when i see someone who let the hot water running or turn on all the light/fan in the room when they are not there.

What about you? Are you on conservation or just dont bother?

  1. Of course, I conserve energy and water. Besides other stuff. Fixing leaking taps every now and then of the entire complex. Asking ppl to switch off their lights, preventing ppl from using good water for washing cars.

I have suggested the colony ppl to install solar pumps to pump water o the tanks, am in the process of convincing them all to segregate their waste and also conserve water.

Besides, I am trying to also convince them to recycle the used sewage water to water all the plants in the children's park nearby. I am sure the plants will thrive on the nutrients.

I am an environmental consultant, for the record. I never use hot water unless I am unwell. Even in the winter. Its not so harsh here. We record a minimum of 15 deg. centigrade. and a max of 25 during winter.

  2. I guess I'm a conservationist, but it's mostly because I'm kinda picky about the way things are.  It just irritates me when I know the thermostat isn't at 68 or when someone leaves the kitchen or hall lights on when nobody's around even.

It's hard to keep things the way I like it when I'm living with other people, though.

Oh, and I recycle a lot.  Of course, I live in Oregon where you get five cents back for every bottle or can you recycle.  But after a long while of stacking up empty bottles, you can make an easy $10 that feels like free money!

  3. yes, I am big on conservation. I turn off lights when leaving rooms, and unplug appliances, because even though they are turned off, electricity is still being pumped to it.  I take short showers, never baths, and turn water off while brushing my teeth.  I also have replaced all my light bulbs with CFL's. We never use our heat in the winter, we use our fireplace, and we open windows and use fans in the summer.

  4. I conserve both.

  5. Yes, I conserve, and teach my family to do the same.

Not only do we make certain things are turned off, but we make sure they are unplugged, as there is still a small current whether they are on or not.

We also only buy new energy star appliances, use LED lights, recycle and reuse every thing possible, compost food, only use biodegradable cleaning products and toiletries, and refrain from eating meat and dairy. The last two being crucial as they consume the most water, a regular diet can waste as much as 4000 gallons of water a day, when a veg diet uses about 350 gallons.

We also don't buy products made out of animals, nor condone buying any product that may be tested on animals (For example, like that new Clorax line of "green" products) or knowingly made of toxic chemicals. Granted I have respect for life, but I refrain from such things as they are very wasteful in resources, as well as have a negative impact on our environment.

I even take it so far that I don't bath every day (just wait) but I wash daily using a cloth and a basin of water. I take a bath once a week, which I consider my only luxury as I have fybromaligia and it is more comforting than a shower.

But we're not hippies or anything ;)

We just try to really limit excess and waste.

  6. i try to do both, getting solar powered lamps 2 minute showers

  7. I wannna be a conservationist and try my best not to use so much energy and water, but sometimes I forget about my principe and when I aware of that i feel very bad..

  8. nice to hear about these things in this modern world...

all the best for your great work...

    then about me,

i wont use fans, lights and other electrical devices when they are not in need off...

then i will not warm up my water for my bath too much so that as i am going to dip a chicken in it as a boiler...

then one thing hope you know that..monitor consumes lot of energy for its use..  so try to switch off your monitor when you are copying, installing something...

    same with the speakers...

let us pray for the others so that they can conserve the energy of the future generation..

  9. Energy most definitely, water, no. Our water comes from the aquifer under our feet, and our 'waste' water returns to that aquifer after filtering  through the 16 feet of silty loam above it.

    Conserving water would accomplish nothing.

We had a wetland in the rear of our land, but our provincial drainage act gives all control of wetlands to those who may be served by draining them. Since they drained our wetland our wells have gone down almost 2 metres. Conserving water has to be a community activity to work.

  10. I conserve, but mainly because gas/electric bills are insanely high at this point.

  11. I've been into conservation since I was in my 20s, thirty years ago.

I use those curly bulbs, turn off small appliances when I'm not using them and unplug them, like the toaster, computer , toaster oven.  I turn off the tv and of course lights.

I try not to let water run when I brush my teeth and I do my dishes twice a day rather than three times. There's only me  and the cat and I don't have a dishwasher.

I recycle paper and bottles and tinned cans and fruit and veggie waste.

Wish they had the recylced paper we used to have 30 years ago for our notebooks.

The earth is out mother, so we should really take care of our mother, since she's taken care of us for millions of years.
