Do you conserve fuel in the US? Cutting down on travel/vacation? Walking/driving? Running air conditioner?

We are all very much affected by the rising costs of gasoline and fossil fuels. How are your daily actions helping conserve fuel/energy. What is your "footprint" on the environment. Any suggestions on conserving fuel/energy?

  1. U.S. cits really suck about this...... But I believe many of us do our part just NOT enough of us and the ones that do many times do not do enough.  My footprint.....never buy aerosal cans, only fill my tank ONCE a week,  if out of gas STAY HOME and deal,  practically LIVE in the dark, Only run air HOTTEST part of day, NEVER water lawn anymore....

fossils - water - etc etc   I hope one day we all make a difference

  2. I moved in with my mother to share expenses on rent and utilities. I don't do much outside of work so I have been saving money rather than giving it back to the economy.

But I am looking forward to buying a fuel economy car.

  3. YAHHHH i am so close of quitting on my job for not giving me a raise that i deserve! =(

  4. I've been trying to cut my miles driven, and also am trying to dirve more efficiently - driving 55mph instead of 65-70 can save 15-20% - that's up to $0.80 / gal!  Also, try to coast as much as possible, anticipating stops and lights, and avoiding sudden acceleration and braking.

At home, I've installed a timer on my swimming pool pump to bring the run time down to 16 hours/day, I may go even lower if the water stays clear.  Also, I'm drying my clothes outside on the line as weather permits and washing most of my clothes in cold water.  I'm taking cooler showers in the summertime and avoiding the AC whenever possible.

In the winter, I heat with gas logs when I'm at home (nearly 100% efficient)  instead of my old 50% efficient furnace.  I set the thermostat at 50-55 when I'm away from home.

  5. When I am driving, I don't speed, and I usually "glide" down hills or along straightaways, meaning I don't press the gas pedal. Also accelerate easily, and same with decelerating.

There have been tests to see if how people drive affects their gas mileage, and you can get up to an average of 10-15 MPG doing this. I've gotten 35 MPG on my BMW, which was around 23 MPG when I drove like a maniac. lol.

  6. I bought a car that gets 35mpg, hang out my laundry, recycle as much as possible, I am trying to do better, just gotta keep working on it!!!   But I live in the HUMID south, and I do run my air--  sorry!!
