Me and my co-workers are having a good argument on whether golf players are athletes, one guy says u just have to have a certain skill but that doesnt make him or her an athlete. Feel free to give your opinion on what an athlete is.

  1. Golfers are athletes. Try finding hand and eye coordination as precise as in golf. Try hitting balls until the hands bleed to get the right shape, consistency in distance, without which you never make the tour. Try being on your own, no help from any team mates, and develop your talents to play professionally. Try being among the top 200 in the country so that you are eligible to qualify for the PGA tour tournaments or the Nationwide Tour. Try walking five miles every day after a couple of hours of practice to fulfill your obligations for the Pro-Ams and then the scheduled tournament. Then be sure to qualify in the top 72 players and ties so that you can compete for a paycheck.Have your coworkers who don't think golf requires athletic ability take a crack at the game and record their results.

  2. no and yes

mainly no coz atheletes are fit and they keep their bodies in shape whilst golf players are just fat little gits

  3. Yes.  Golf does require skill and players in the PGA, USGA, LPGA have to walk miles of course a weekend.  Plus you need accuracy & some strength to put the ball on the fairway.

  4. Certainly, the more athletic you are, the better golfer you'll be.  About 9 or 10 years ago, ESPN had this countdown of the 50 greatest athletes.  I had an issue with Jack Nicklaus being in the top 10.  I didn't consider a golfer an athlete.  This was before I really got into golf.  I definitely ate my words with that statement.  The only things baseball has over golf is that the ball is moving and running is involved.  If baseball players are athletes, so are golfers.

  5. they are if they're also in shape. You can play golf and be out of shape, but you probably won't be as good. The good golfers are usually the ones who are closer to being considered athletes, and better at the game.

  6. They can walk ten miles a day wacking little white ball along.

  7. completely, 1st...its a long walk *lol*

the best players hit it 300 plus, so they have 2 be increadibly strong

alot of pratice helps them hit it consistantly

it takes focus, composure *when u hit a bad shot*, and work

have u seen thoes fat b-ball players!?!?!...they are athletes...so are fat golfers

  8. I think golfers are athletes because I am on my high school golf team

  9. no....u need skill but u dont need fitness....i dont get how they get injured when all they have to do is hit and walk a bit.agree its a sport but u dont call them athletes....its mostly for the retired and fat

  10. I say yes.  I play competitive junior golf and I have to do weight training and various other exercises every day for a hour.

So yeah to those people who say golf is not, it is.

  11. you need muscle to be able to hit the ball far.

you need skill to be able to hit the ball in the right direction.

    (you walk a lot)

    =)

it may not be a cardio workout, but you need a cardio workout to train for it.

  12. no it for us guys over 50 who think we still have it I walk but most of the golfer ride a cart it just get you away from your wife for 5 hour
