Question:

Do you consider Taebo a martial art? Is it really a mixture of Tae(kwondo) and bo(xing), thus, "Taebo"?

Or is that just false advertising? I took up Taebo some time ago, two years ago. It was a free class in our gym, so I tried it, I mean, what the heck, I had nothing else to do after working out. Most of the people there were fat moms and there were some guys just looking for the cardio aspect of it. And boy, was it tiring. Most of the time, we executed kicks and punches, copying the moves from the instructor. But, question is, is this Taebo really a martial art?

  1. Taebo is an excercise that incorporates martial arts moves. It was developed by Billy Blanks, who has said himself that Taebo is and exercise not a martial art.

  2. Sorry, but Taebo is not a martial arts.  It is fantastic as an aerobic exercise.. and will no doubt help things like balance and coordination, but it is not a martial art.

  3. What you learn by using Teabo is what all schools teach as "kumite". They practice kata and their kumite is kickboxing.

    You're all guilty!!!

  4. I think it's more of an exercise thing like Jazzercizing, not a martial art.

  5. No!

Anyone who has trained in martial arts knows that you can get a great workout by doing a lot of kicks and punches. The creator of Taebo used this idea to create a workout system. But Taebo does not teach you how to fight. In fact, from the little I have seen it does not even teach proper technique for throwing a kick or a punch.

  6. No it is not a martial art.

  7. martial arts is the name for every type of self defense/fighting

  8. It's like any kickboxing class you would find at a gym. No real technique is taught just a bunch of kicks and punches to get the heart pumping. "taebo" is just a fancy name attached to sell the dvds.

They try to pass it off as a martial art but really it's just an aerobic activity.

  9. It's a aerobic workout with Martial Art moves like kicks and punches and movements involved in it. But it won't teach you when to use the kick/punch and when not to. So in my mind it is not a Martial Art.

  10. Its more like an exercise
