Do you consider black immigrants and their children African American?

Because I don't. As far as I'm concerned African American is what passes for an ethnic category for the descendants of slaves here in America. I don't see how a black American would be grouped with a black immigrant from Jamaica or Cuba when they don't even share the same culture.
