Do you consider people from Northern Ireland real Irish?

Yes, why not, so there's a lot of English there.

It doesn't mean the people who call themselves

Irish, are  English...just because they live in the north.

In fact you'll find alot of Northerners in the republic....does that make them truly Irish??

Interesting question.  Everyone I know in the Midlands feels that the identity of people in NI is really dependant on their own ideas of allegiance.  If they are patriotic to the crown, they consider them British, if they feel a connection with Ireland itself, they consider them Irish.  Neither myself nor any of my friends harbour any resentment towards those living there since there are unionists in NI, we only feel insulted when Northerners travel through and make statements like, "I just don't get you 'Irish'".  Usually statements like that tend to alienate the person speaking.

Just becasue someone is living in the North doesn't make them non-Irish, there are many living there becasue they still feel that it's part of the whole country.  Then there are also those living there, and were BORN there, and hate the Irish.

I suppose it boils down to an individuals own sense of self and what culture he feels identifies him.

Officially, the government here feels that Northerners are Irish, and will extend ROI citienship and a passport to anyone living in NI.

I was born in Northern Ireland and now live in Scotland.  When I'm asked what natationality I am I always say Irish and very proud of it, certainly not British.     Although I have been away from Ireland for nearly 30 years I still call it my home and always will.  If you were born in Wales you are Welsh, people born in Scotland are Scottish.

I was talking to some people when I was in Belfast. The majority said that they consider themselves Northern Irish, and if they had to choose Irish or British, on like an application or something, they would choose Irish. Of course I didn't ask the entire population, so I can't be sure of every opinion. After living in Belfast for a while, I consider them Northern Irish.

Why not! Even though Republicans would probably argue the point. After over 800 years, you figure the "debate" for Northern Ireland would be solved. You cannot go back to the root of the problem, and lets face it, the Brits will never leave Northern Ireland. So what is one to do, eh?

I think everlasting peace will only be achieved when both parties take that stick out of their a** so they can sit down and work it out.
