In photography, does the credit (for the photo) go to the photographer, the camera, or the people/things in the photo?

  1. I consider it art, sure anybody can take a photo but not everybody can capture the emotions and beauty that some photographers can. I think you need to have an eye for detail and know what is going to work well. Just like painting a picture, you can have the most expensive paints and canvas in the world and set up in a beautiful place but that does not mean your painting will be great, the real art is about capturing the beauty and working with it.

  2. Yes it is an art, and the credit goes to the photographer. Much the same as the credit for a painting goes to a painter, not to the pain, nor the subject.

  3. Normally the credit goes to the photographer.

  4. Photography is both an art and a science.  The credit goes to the photographer.  It is the photographers eye that sees a scene, it is the photographers mind composes the photograph, it is the photographers eye that see how shapes, colors, shadows, light, tones, and expressions interact with one another to make the scene.  That is the art. It is the photographers that decides how to set the camera to expose the scene. That is the science.  A little under exposed to set a somber or quiet mood, a little over exposed to create a bright happy mood,Now we back to the art.

  5. Just like singing is only an art when someone talented is doing it, and those who excel are usually well trained.....yes...photography CAN be an art. (We are in the visual arts section, are we not?)

  6. Yes, it's a creative art and the photographer's vision. The credit then obviously goes to the photographer.

  7. GOOD photography can be art, but very little of it is good.  To be art, it must be original and created for aesthetic appreciation. The photographer must be in control of all the variables -- else, it's just a machine doing its thing.  Most photographers are simply taking pictures of pictures -- that is, imitating themselves or each other.

  8. It is certainly an art. The credit certainly does not go to the camera, because that is just the tool. It's just like the credit for a painting does not go to the paints, brushes, and canvas, although without those it would not have worked. 90% of the time I think credit should go to the photographer, but sometimes there are photos that were obviously taken by newbie, but are still great just because he was lucky in having a good subject.

  9. if that's a yes-no question, i answer with a definite yes.

answering your question in further detail... the credit 100% goes to the photographer and nothing else. definitely a good camera plays a part, as well as the subject of the photo, it takes a good photographer to handle a good camera - a photographer of 30 years can do better with a camera phone then a beginner can with canon's mark III DSLR. and of course, the people/things in the photo. there are so many beautiful things to photograph in this world, but only the best photographers can capture them in a unique and wonderful way. so yes, photographers are everything in photography.
