  1. I think its one of those names that started out being for boys, but will eventually be used for mostly girls.  Right now its kind of unisex, but I think in 40 years it will be used for mostly girls.  Just think 100 years ago Ashley, Aubrey, and Morgan were all boys names too, but today we hear those names and think only girls:)

  2. both.

    Riley for a boy.

    Rylie for a girl.

  3. I know 2 rileys and they are both girls both it can be a boys name too

  4. i have a cousin riley, and its a girl.

  5. I really see it as both. I know one person named Riley and it is a girl. I don't know any boy Rileys but I think it would be adorable for a boy.

  6. It sounds like a boy to me, but I don't care for the name either way. It is a common last name. It is also way to tired and overused. Along with Miley, Kylie, Ferfylie. Well, you get the idea.

  7. Very cute name for both but i like it on a girl.

    ♥

  8. I think it sounds cuter as a girls name, Riley Brianne, its completely irish!

  9. girl. most definately.

  10. both, i knew a guy named Riley...and now alot of people are naming their baby girls Riley.

  11. Both. It's a unisex name.

I think of the spelling "Riley" to be masculine.

I think of the spellings Rylie, Rylee, Ryleigh, Rilee, and Rileigh to be more feminine.

This will be our little girl's name (if we're having one), spelled Rylie.

    Good luck!

  12. It's traditionally a boy name and I prefer it as a boy name. However, there is a definite trend to making boy names into girl names like with Riley and Cameron for example.

  13. I like it more on a girl, but my nephew's name is Riley Aaron so I like it on a boy too. If I heard Riley, I would think of a boy first, because of my nephew.

  14. Riley is lovely for both boys and girls but think its a cool name for a girl...

  15. Girls, for sure. Riley for a boy just sounds geeky to me. For a girl, I think it's sassy and cute.

  16. My daughter is called Riley, definitely a girl's name.  She is so cute & this name totally suits her.

  17. It's a family name. As a boy's or girl's name, it's way overused in all of its spellings. Please come up with something more original (Cody doesn't count!)

  18. Either. I can't see it being more of a boy or girl name. About 50/50.

  19. Riley is a unisex name

Riley is more common as a girl name

Riley was rank 52 out of the top 1000 girls names in 2007, been in the top 100 since 2002 of girls name

A lot of people name Riley as a boy, it was Rank 109 in 2007 in the top 1000 boys names.  Unlike the girl, it get less common, in 2002, it was rank 99

That is the only Riley with that spelling

I would not name a boy a girl name in the top 100

I would not name a girl a boy name in the top 100

Unless they are both are in the top 100

  20. After watching the entire Buffy the Vampire Slayer series, I would say a boys' name.  However, people on here are desperate to name their girl children boys' names.  On Y!A Riley (Rilee, Rylie, etc.) seems to be a girls' name.

I wouldn't ever use it for a boy or a girl.  The traditional spelling, Reilly looks better for a boy, though.

  21. I would consider it more suited to a boy but to be honest with you, I wouldn't use it as a first name for either s*x.  A middle name for a boy would be OK with me but I would really consider it a last or family name.  Since you don't pick your family name unless you have it changed, I guess the whole issue with me is irrelevant.

  22. Riley is a surname.

As a name Riley sounds like a good name for a dog. Here Riley, come here Riley, that's a good dog! This is a name for a dog not a person. Put your head on straight people.

  23. BOTH!! I have a friend named Riley who is a Girl and I have a nephew named Riley.

  24. Traditionally, boy, now it could be either way. And I've never even heard of Rye being a name, or at least a legitimate one.

  25. I like it for a boy better.

  26. Girl, I know someone that has the name Riley and she is a girl. so thats why i think its a girls name.

  27. I think it's really supposed to be a boy's name, but over the years it's mostly used for girls. I like it better when it's used for a girl to be honest.

  28. both, but i would consider it more of of a boyish name. Rye...vita (reminds me of crackers)

  29. It can be either.

I know a boy and his name is spelled Rylee and I know a girl and her name is spelled Riley.

    I think it's more of a girl's name though.

  30. I dated someone called Reilly so for me it will always be a boys name

  31. if you spell it Riley it is considered a girls name but if  you spell it Reilly than it is considered a boy congrats if expecting
