Do you honestly think that one person can be defined as better than another person (morally), or are people merely labeled as better than other people based on the opinion of society in general. And please, for the sake of even answering the question, don't give brief answers.

  1. I'm just good at being me...and I like me...

Does that make me better than others?

No...it just makes me better at being me...

  2. Depends on what you value.

I know people who think a person is good because they have lots of money, or they have a powerful position in life so their opinion/life is valued.

I personally treat everyone the same a jerk is a jerk no matter how much money they have in the bank or the color of their skin!

A lot of times when a person has money or power or both people don't even bother to look into their morality.

But a homeless person on the street will be viewed as a bad guy. This country values the wrong thing.

  3. I used to think I was better than other people, but I was delusional.  We are all equally important and significant in this world but society is shallow and bases success on grades and degrees but with these degrees are people able to do the jobs that matter most to society?  If you think about it many people who work for degrees do so to avoid having to do the hardest but most important jobs.  Nowadays in society there are not enough people cultivating their own food and growing vegetables and fruiting plants.  Everyone considers this to not really be a proper job but it is one of the most vital to our existence.  If no one cultivated vegetables and fruit people would starve and become ill.

People are judged by societies standards, meaning that people who commit adultery are frowned upon, those who kill and murder are excluded as a matter of course and are kept caged away from society like the mentally ill.  Why is this ? it is because society is afraid of evil and cannot cope with it.

  4. No I do not.  I think this is against God.  The Bible itself (which I believe to be a very wise old book) says "One aught not to think more highly of oneself than the next person".

If we think we are better than other people, then we are judging them - and judging is not for us to do - only God must be the ultimate judge.  The Bible also says (full of pearls of wisdom!) that God hates a proud and haughty look!!

  5. Absolutely not. No one is "Better" than anyone else. Some may have more, but it doesn't make the "Better". There are people in all walks that believe they are "Better". As for (morally), not sure how that would apply here. My morals would not neccessarily be the same as yours so each person would have to define Morals.  And labeling a gender or a race as better than another, I think society already does that.

  6. That's a very good question.

I think really ultimately and philosophically, we are all equal.  Nobody is better than anyone else.

However, in reality, with society, there are levels.  You may have one person that beats their wife and kids, steals from his boss, lies all the time, cheats on his wife, and then maybe even kills someone.  Then you could have someone else that doesn't lie, they don't steal, they wait until they are married to have s*x and stay faithful throughout their marriage, they give food and money to the poor, etc.

Which is better, or is one better than the other?  Society has an opinion.

Or you can have someone that dropped out of school in 9th grade, and barely studied before that and can't spell well, doesn't understand complicated issues, etc.  Then you have someone else who went got their MD/PhD, is a MENSA member, etc.

Which one is smarter?  Society has an opinion.

I think for societal purposes, there are people that are "morally" better than others, and people that are "intellectually smarter" than others, etc.  But ultimately, we are all human, and nobody is better than anyone else.

If there are two people in an E.R. and one is bleeding to death, and the other has the sniffles, the one bleeding is going to be treated first.  Irregardless if they are rich or poor.  The one with the sniffles will wait, irregardless if they are morally better or smarter than the one that was bleeding to death.

I think by society's standards I am "smarter" and more "moral" than many, but I don't think I'm better than others.  Matter of fact, my job is not a job you'd think somebody like me would hold (I'm a MENSA member by the way - so you understand where I'm coming from on this).  Part of my job is manual labor, cleaning areas, etc.  I do have a master's degree though.  If I thought I was "better" than others, I could easily think, wow, as smart as I am, and with my degrees, I'm "above" this type of work.  But it doesn't work that way.

I'm human just like everyone else.  We all love, we all get tired, we all get sick.  If we all treated each others as equals and acted as though we were equal, no matter our station in life, this world might actually start becoming a better place a lot faster.
