  1. You do not need a passport to travel to and from mexico by LAND yet.  That requirement will start sometime between Jan. 2008 and June 2009.  passports are required for AIR travel at this time.  See website below to read the WHTI, the passport law, for yourself.

  2. no, not yet

  3. well i have a friend that went to mexico then when she came back they told her that next time she came back she needed a passaport or visa or else they wouldnt let her come back. they told her that the same rules here apply to over there regarding a passaport.

  4. yeah u do or u could use something dat shows youre a resident of the u.s

  5. Charlie is the only one that got it right--there's a difference between driving in and flying in.

You do need Mexican auto insurance.  Google "mexican auto insurance" and you'll see a ton of companies that can provide the insurance for the time period you'll be in Mexico.

If you're just going to a border town, you can save the insurance hassle, by parking in a lot on the US side and walking across the border.  I used to do that all the time, parking in a lot in Brownsville and walking across the bridge into Mexico for a day of shopping and dining.

    Where are you going?

  6. As of January 2007, you need a passport to go into Mexico.  I know for a fact because I book enough international vacations and the place I go informed me of that (even though I already had one).  A birth certificate no longer works.

I hope that doesn't ruin your vacation to Mexico.  Call and find out about your passport and what is taking so long.  Right now, an average wait on a passport is 6 months.  Good luck!

  7. I believe they changed it so you have to have a passport a while back, but since the backlogging all you need is proof that you APPLIED for a passport.  Considering your time frame, you may not have much luck getting into Mexico.  Be sure to double check at the post office to make sure though.

  8. yes I believe so... or try just using your birth certificate

  9. Absolutely 100% you do not need one to go over by car.

Don't mind everyone telling u stories about needing one, that is ONLY for AIR crossing right now. One of the reasons why there has been such huge delays in processing passort applications is because huge numbers of people applied for passports when they didn't need them that the State department had not counted into estimates e.g. you don't need them to go to Mexico or Canada unless it is a crossing by air. An awful lot of people are misinformed about this & applied for passports anyway thus slowing down the whole system & causing people who actual needed them not to have them in time  have to cancel vacation etc.

    Go & have a ball!!!!

  10. just with your birth certificate and any form of an id with a picture
