  1. I step on them to bend them over, but don't cut them.


  2. I'm no botanist, but I've always been told not to cut the tops off while they are still growing, they need the tops to continue development. For the same reason, you shouldn't cut down tulips and daffodils until the tops die off.

  3. the onion still needs the "top" if it is still growing.  when you harvest them, you may cut the tops off if you wish.  depending on the type of onion, the top may be edible.

  4. I use the tops of the onions. I don't cut them...I break off how many I want while the onion is still in the ground.
