Do you dislike joe calzaghe's boxing style? and do you think he's overrated?

there's something about his boxing style that really irritates me, like i don't understand why his quick slapping jabs are effective. He'll give you a flurry of fast punches, but nothing that fast can have much power behind them. Someone needs to show this imposter what boxing is really about and knock him out! I'm kinda new to boxing, what do u guys think?

i agree , he ******* sucks , all he dose is jack rabbit punch , i think hopkinz should've won that fight with him , hopkins even knocked him down, he is overated

Ok so Calzaghe is elusive, clever, quick and throws a h**l of a lot of punches, his style may not be the prettiest or most fun to watch, you say your new to boxing so ill forgive you for the "nothing that fast can have much power behind them", just so you know speed is power, a punch that is thrown at 2mph isnt gunna hurt compared to a pucnh thrown at 50mph, also yes calzaghe slaps a lot but he does also throw some good straight left hands and i think a lot of boxers underate his power such as kessler who by the end of the fight had huge swelling and was backing up, people also tend to underate kessler but i think in a few years he will be up there in the mix of the pound for pound fighters, calzaghe has had a great career and has a great boxing mind,  his amateur record somthing like 130 fights 10 losses, he is awesome so stop saying he is c**p just because you dont like him

I can't say that I like his style either. It works for him though. It seems that his gameplan is always to outwork or outscore, rather than finish. While his handspeed is impressive, his punches seem ineffective. Of course, having never taken a punch from him, thats easy for me to say.

his style isn't particularly impressive, he is not a hard hitter at all  he simply relies on hand speed to throw quick flurries and punches to look good for the judges but if he ever stepped in with a strong hard chinned puncher (not the fake jeff lacy) he might be in serious trouble......cough*pavlik* cough.....until he fights a tough prime opponent i won't respect him.

I,m glad you said that you are kinda new to boxing because what you are seeing on TV that looks like slapping is really a well placed jab that stops guys from running in there. Calzaghe is a very good fighter I hesitate to call him great just yet.

Ha, well said, I couldn't have said it any better than CM77. Watch the slow motion replays of Joe Calzaghes slaps and you will see the way he punches is similar to the way a girl does in cat fight, his punches are slightly windmilled. It's like he's playing whack-a-mole, with no goal other than racking up points.
